Expected, sure, but that's different from hoped. There could have been some really nice moments to be had if they'd just gone "hey, let's make Bobbie bisexual", and it's a shame that theatre, of all mediums, isn't the place we're going to play with that.

I’m sorry but Being Alive is a guys song in the same way I Dreamed a Dream is a female song, Apart from Bernadette it’s very difficult to move gender. For me looking from the Facebook feed it didn’t work and she struggled.

With so many changes, tonyloco is going to be absolutely furious. " How did you guess, TallPaul? Reading the most recent posts, I do wonder what's the point in just swapping the genders? If the show is to be re-imagined then why not make Bobby/Bobbie bisexual or just gay and get a completely new slant on it all. Apparently Mr Sondheim has given his approval for this production but I wonder how far he expects the changes to go? As for me, I have already had a sign from Thespis that the Gods of Theatre are cross with me because they cancelled the matinee of Company for which I had originally booked. I am now fully expecting a burst water main or a gas leak or a sink hole when the performance for which I am now booked comes along!

I definitely agree about the sexualify thing, they say they’re trying to make the musical less “of its time”/bring it into the 21st century yet there is not a single LGBT character within the FIVE couples/Bobbi. I think we’re definitely getting there with having gay characters in all forms of media but there seems to be hardly any bisexual people in anything, or anything that I’ve seen/read anyway. Bobbi with 2 boyfriends and 1 girlfriend would have been great, and having none of the characters reference it at all because I don’t think fluid sexuality is normalised enough.

Joanne will be asking Bobbie when she's going to make it with Larry, Can't wait to see Patti's face when Bobbie replies "_What's wrong with now..."

Sondheim allowed an all male workshop a few years ago but said that it didn’t work because it was written with straight relationships in mind. I presume that he continues to say no to any such requests, so it’s down to Sondheim, not the creative team.

How do you make 'You Could Drive A Person Crazy?' work with three straight men? The Cassidy brothers did it for a BCEFA event and it was still as camp as Christmas.

That's a great rendition. And I love her "bee-YANG" versus "bee-ing"Alive. That'll make a great finale. We'll cry, we'll clap until our hands start to bleed, and in the middle LuPone will splash her fake martini on us who will be sitting in the front row, and we won't wash our face for a week. And THAT is showbiz, kid.

I bet Patti was itching to get up and show her how it should be done. By taking out half of the consonants.

I think Rosalie sings it better than anyone I've heard do it and she hasn't even started rehearsals yet. Imagine what she's going to be like come September!

Yes, she sang it well. But the role is about more than that song.
The success or failure of the project is how well the whole adaptation works.

Oh how lovely. Patti LuPone and some other people. Probably toasting Andrew Lloyd The Lord Webber's birthday.

Here's the full song without interruptions Miss LuPone looks like she’s hearing that song for the first time and loving it. Miss Giedroyc looks like she’s trying to remember if she still has any cake left in the freezer for dinner.

My God - watching Patti and Mel watching Rosalie Craig is literally the weirdest thing ever. Every time I look at Mel (not just here, anywhere) I always think she's about to laugh. Surreal! No idea how Patti (who I love incidentally, but remain slightly terrified of) will cope not being the lead, I have no idea.

No idea how Patti (who I love incidentally, but remain slightly terrified of) will cope not being the lead, I have no idea. She may not be the lead (heaven knows who this Wendy Craig is) but she's definitely the STAR!

Very tempted by £18 tickets for this on Today Tix but they are at the very last couple of rows of the balcony. I may hold off for a bit longer.

Hoping for a full cast announcement soon. Wonder if there will be any type of rush/lottery on Today Tix. Debating whether to hold out booking or not.

Not the London production, and perhaps this is already common knowledge, but Tracie Bennett mentioned she's been approached to be in an upcoming Broadway production of Company. She mentioned it in passing whilst on hosting duties at the Stephen Sondheim Student Performer of the Year competition last Sunday.
