Strong cast - reckon one or two will hang around for A Christmas Carol too!

Tim has been doing the radio media rounds this week with Zoe Ball and Chris Moyles. Both interviews (especially the one with Chris) gives lots of detail about why the show went to Broadway and shouldn't have.
Lots of chat about some tweaks being made to this version and he even said 'it's better than Matilda' - strong words!
He's over here for 3 weeks in rehearsals apparently - so he may not be there for opening.
Hoping we get some rehearsal pics/photos soon.

It will be interesting to see when the leading man actually makes it into the country!

oh have people finally clocked he's not here 😂😂 I’d argue it’s been pretty obvious given him and his wife are constantly schmoozing around NYC 😂

I don't follow him on socials so hadn't seen, but knew he wasn't arriving in rehearsals till week 4...evidently pretty confident be only needs a refresher, but he's not done it for...6 years?

Both interviews (especially the one with Chris) gives lots of detail about why the show went to Broadway and shouldn't have. Any chance you can sum this but up please? To sum up (and I am still listening to the Chris Moyles interview on catchup as I type this) it was an American producer who got on board during the workshops who insisted for it to go to Broadway straight away, however he ended up pulling out but the show was still committed to going to Broadway so had to be re-financed (the original plan was to go from The Old Vic to the West End / UK tour). So by the time the show opened on Broadway it was up against a lot of competition which didn’t want open the year before due to Hamilton being the hit of the year in terms of Tony Awards etc. As Tim says he could probably write a book on all the reasons why and Broadway is a more ruthless business.

That’s fascinating. “Groundhog Day” will always be my favorite musical of that season and one of my favorite shows.

Yes and that American producer was the one and only Scott Rudin

The Chris Moyles interview can be found on here (or wherever you get your podcasts) podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/jamie-oliver-tim-minchin-and-wasabi-vodka-387/id1042635536?i=1000608955591 - Tim joins from about 17 minutes in (topic goes to GhD from about 19 mins 30 secs). It really is such a shame how Groundhog Day wasn't the hit it deserved to be on Broadway as it really is a brilliant piece. I also remember listening to Tim on another podcast during the show's development (around the time he started his Dreamworks Movie) saying that the goal wasn't to create it with Broadway in mind. I hope this return to the Old Vic really does pave the way for it to be a further success in the UK as it really deserves to be seen by more people. P.S. Interestingly Tim also mentions as a side note (while listing the other Broadway shows GhD was up against) that the Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 is about to open in the UK!

The Old Vic website has been down for days now on my end. First it was a broken queue system and now doesn't seem to be loading up at all. Ticket sales must be taking a hit...

If anyone is desperate for a pair of good-but-full-price stalls tickets for the first night I've just returned two as I have some PWC ones.

How are we all feeling about this now there’s only 9 days to go? Any hints on changes other than the revolve?

I am beyond excited!
They’ve released some rehearsal footage today and can already spot a few minor changes. Looks like there’s some new choreography involving flags which I don’t remember from the original run.
They definitely still have the car chase scene as in the rehearsal footage there was the moving car prop - I wasn’t sure if they were going to be able to do that without the revolve. Also someone was holding a house puppet.
Also Andy posted a long video on Instagram the other day talking about the show and mentioned that the ‘magic tricks’ (I’m presuming during ‘Hope’) will all be included plus some new additions.
The main thing I need to be confirmed is that they haven’t cut Playing Nancy!

It’s a new choreographer so it’s all new staging. They also have simplified the staging as the revolves were too unreliable first time round

It's looking likely that I can't go to this in June after all. Especially gutting as I have front and centre of circle for June 3rd, and booking the same seat later in the run costs twice as much. Excuse me while I go and sulk in a corner.
