They say the critics don't matter but they clearly do as since the reviews have come out the Old Vic ticket site has clearly been extremely busy! Huge amounts of seats have been sold - no availabilty at all in the gallery (sorry the Lilian Baylis circle) and seats in the stalls mostly £90 rising to £140 for Premium seats!!! Having checked on Monday this week there was tons of availability! SO basically if you haven't seen it you are going to have to fork out £90! IMO - don't! Good for them, it really is a fantastic show in my opinion and is worth it for Andy Karl's performance alone! I would never pay £90 for a show anyway, but I would happily pay a sum of money to see this show, even to see it again!

This will surely get a West End transfer anyway? Unless it does a Color Purple and say it won't because it won't come over because it has already been here (for a very limited run in an Off West-End theatre). It does deserve a transfer though.

This will surely get a West End transfer anyway? Eventually it will, but it's been so up in the air for so long as to exactly what this show is going to do. There are theatres available, I suppose the delay would be from the producers focusing on Broadway as per the original roadmap for the show, and only if that completely stalls would they be likely to regroup for a west end transfer.

Finally saw this yesterday Evening and hugely enjoyed the show. So funny, great staging and amazing cast. Andy Karl is phenomenal (I hope he wins every award possible), and I think I've fallen slightly in love with Georgina Hagen.
I'd definitely go again if it returned to London or opened on Broadway.
However, - front row really shouldn't be sold for full price but rather 2nd or even 3rd. Leg room was very limited and the view was somewhat obstructed because of the high stage. - I didn't particularly like the score, the final song (which I already knew before) and the act 2 opener were the only good songs. - as much as I enjoyed Carlyss Peer's Rita (funny, charming and great acting), I really didn't like her singing voice as it has a very unpleasant tone. They should have cast Ashleigh Gray instead who also looks like a young Andie MacDowell.

Also was there yesterday. And did a backstage tour before that. Can't talk about anything but how great Andy Karl is and keep reeatching that Give It Away video... Would love to see the show again, sadly all the cheaptickets are all gone now

I saw yesterday's matinee. I'd give it a generous 4* (but more a 3.5) but a stonking 5* for Andy who stole the show and deserves any awards he's nominated for. I agree Michael Peer's voice was somewhat whiny and it grated with me. I wouldn't pay crazy prices for tickets but might see it if it did transfer and I could get a cheapie tickets.

A triumph. Andy Karl is sensational as is the use of multiple revolves. Score was a bit of a let down, including that bizarre song at the top of Act 2. They should've opened with that wonderfully staged number instead.
Hope it doesn't stay away from the West End for too long. It would be a prefect fit in the Adelphi.

The Mail on Sunday has gone some way to making up for Quentin Letts' thoughts on the show and disparaging remarks about Andy Karl with a five star review and lots of praise for the leading man today. The only point they seem to agree with Letts on is singling out Playing Nancy as a highlight of the score.

Yes, a stupendous technical achievement. But, very uninvolving with its endless repetitions, its relentless american-ness, and the irritating Andy Karl playing the hugely dislikable central role. I agree that there is a niche sector of the public who will revel in this and appreciate it properly, but I can't believe that the general public will enjoy it much at all. Personally, I'd be happy if any UK transfer dies a flopping death because I was just so disengaged with this and more than slightly alienated by it, and I'm very annoyed with myself for bothering to see it. This was a big disappointment because I loved Matilda and had built up high hopes that Groundhog Day might also appeal to me.

Judging by the audience reactions, it's the other way around - most people respond very positively to it, those who don't are in the minority.
It's always disappointing when you dislike a show you wanted to enjoy, but a bit harsh to hope it flops. Particularly when it's a limited run - it's not like it's going to be blocking new work coming in, it hasn't even announced a West End transfer.

I enjoyed it, but can see why some would be underwhelmed. It isn't Matilda, and it doesn't have the charm or heart that Matilda has. I think it's biggest flaw is an unlikeable central performance. Andy Karl does a fantastic job and is brilliant in the role, but you don't like the character.

For me despite this mildly lecherous motive he manages to pull it off anyway, and by the end I think that it's disingenuous to say that that's what the character was doing in the last cycle. He's moved on, grown up a bit, and fallen in love with her, which let's the bizarre curse end for whatever reason.

Phil is unlikeable but that's the point.
