I was waiting for someone else to start a thread and to post a more comprehensive and considered review than I am capable of; however, if I take the plunge after all, at least others will have somewhere to add their thoughts!
This new play, by former journalist Jonathan Maitland (writer of the very successful Dead Sheep, currently on a UK tour) is about cheating through drug use and genetic engineering in professional sport - specifically running in this case.
I found it really compelling, thought-provoking and well-performed, but reviews have been so mixed - from 2 to 4 stars - that there seems to be no consensus. I really enjoyed it; moreover, it's almost worth going simply to see Zoe Waites as the villainous coach, Rona, who exerts a truly awful fascination. A great part for an actor to get her teeth into and a character who certainly does exactly this to others, but someone from whom (if I could run at all), I'd run a mile in real life.
