Just booked for the Feb 18th Matinee, one of the £5 front row seats. Since announced, I have been intrigued by this show, so am much looking forward to it!

Question: how wild is this party? Just want to know who I should take with me. Is there lots of bad language, lots of sex? Or is it quite tame compared to other things nowadays?!

I saw on Instagram one of my queens, Victoria HB, is in this! OMG. Is this like a limited run or is there hope this will extend? Cause I probably won't be able to travel to London until the summer.

Bad language, incest, homicide, alcohol, the usual stuff Thanks. Hmmm. Guess I'll have to wait to hear about the previews to see how 'rude' this actual production is. I am going quite early on though. Might take a younger person then just in case, rather than an older relative haha.

Bad language, incest, homicide, alcohol, the usual stuff Incest? Not that I recall. There is an attempted rape, coke snorting, and an orgy during which one of the ladies loses her top.

I do hope there's a little bit of homosexuality. No party is "wild" without it these days.

I'm thinking that what might be controversial in this show is the fact that Burrs does his very unfunny vaudeville act in blackface - as many comedians of the era did. It's written in the script and it's kind of a key to his character and to the plot and in the productions I have seen it was done that way, in blackface. But sensitivities being what they are I wonder if this is now a problem.

We saw it on its brief Broadway run. Patinkin opened the show front of curtain in blackface. A few walkouts. It's meant to shock I think. Great show. Seeing Eartha Kitt slink onto stage has been a highlight of my theatre going life!

If memory serves me correctly it was a return to the stage for Mandy Patinkin after a hiatus and he would come out and walk on stage at unrehearsed and inappropriate moments. I believe he was actually fined or blocked. Here's a BroadwayWorld thread on the topic www.broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.php?thread=955542

I think he slapped his Queenie or spat on her and then claimed he was in character or something so he couldn't be blamed for that

But sensitivities being what they are I wonder if this is now a problem. It's interesting, given that it's 'in historical context' and clearly making a point that this isn't 'right' or from a character who is remotely acceptable. It should be shocking, but acceptable within the context of the production. But I'd lay money on some 'outrage' from those taking it out of context and insisting that the theatre/show are advocating Blackface... I also vaughly remember the Many P controversy, I'm pretty sure he hit the girl and claimed he was 'out of control in character' or similar yes...

Saw a brief video of the stage on Instagram yesterday or the day before and the stage looked very high. No indication if the cheap seats would be restricted views much.

I just listened to some of the videos on you tube and although a good cast I can't say i'll be forking out for a ticket. Didn't like the music.

I've just had a listen of the two tracks released on YouTube and I reallly like the sound and vibe of the score. Quite a jazzy vibe, very sexy too and both Frances and Victoria sound amazing. Do we just accept that Victoria is one of the best we have now?
