Yeah I agree with the above, of course I wouldn't expect someone to drop in and learn the full version but even if you had said performer at the side of the stage reading from the script it would be better than nothing.

You have to see the show to understand why using an unrehearsed replacement would never work. There's no possibility of reading from a script.

That being the case, why no understudies? Knowing that just one or two missing performers means cancellation, is that not extremely poor form?

Yes- for some shows, sure script in hand can work as a better-than-cancelling approach and particularly helpful if said person has familarity with the show (like Into the Woods) But the problem with The Wild Party is that it isn't as widely performed and the repatoire 'known' as say a Sondheim. And also from my knowledge (didn't get to see it, just know the piece) it's a complex interwoven piece and rehearsing someone even script in hand for it just wouldn't work with such short notice.
Glad they're getting their final show though!

I'd assume the lack of understudies would be down to budget. It's a complex piece definitely and they've done well throughout without understudies. Its unfortunate that it's fallen apart these last few days

If you can run the Tempest with a bloke in a suit and holding the script playing Ariel, you can get away with most things. You would need time though to arrange even that , and they didn't have that.

Its unfortunate that it's fallen apart these last few days At a guess you would need a younger and an older female, and a generic male. swing team . I imagine thats going to be a lot more expensive than losing a couple of shows's takings. Comes of putting on a top line cast, with an abundance of leading actors, and you assume paying them decently, in a theatre thats not got that many seats to pay for it all. .

Sad but true. I feel for those who missed out over the last few days and I can only assume the Saturday matinee was axed so the evening performance could go ahead. Im sure the decision wasnt taken lightly

For what's it worth, I thought the show was great and all the cast were full of energy. I couldn't tell if anyone was a bit poorly. Wasn't a fan of Ms. Ruffelle's singing, but I doubt that was illness-related... The £10 seats in the front rows were definitely a steal.

Having seen the first preview which was frenetic and plagued by sound issues, we retuned for the final performance last night. It was stunning with great performances all round and the energy was off the scale.

I wonder if the Lippa version is finally having a UK production?

Why won't they give us the Lippa version!!! There have always been weird rights issues with it in the UK, have never been able to get to the bottom of it!

Looking at the seating arrangements, or rather the lack of actual seats, I think I'll give this one a miss.

I tried to book this show yesterday.
First I had to accept a verification code to my mobile from "DICE" whoever they are before I could search dates and availability. When I entered that code on the show/venue's website I then had to specify what price ticket I wanted so I went for the cheapest. That led me to seats at the back around the £17 mark but I couldn't see on that page what seats were available at the front at other prices to make an informed choice. I gave up.
I still intend to see this show and will try again as I really enjoyed the Arts Ed production back in February 2020 but I don't think such a convoluted booking system is going to help it.

DICE is an app usually used for gigs, so I'm not surprised the booking process is rocky for theatre, it's probably not optimised for it. I'm not willing to give them my mobile just to have a look at the seating plan...

I can't make head or tail of it. Can you actually book the seats at the front (which look like actual seats?) because there's no way I can sit on a hard bench with no back support (I've got back injuries from an accident) The website isn't clear and the Dice app doesn't look helpful at all. I've never been to this venue and have already taken against it! (I really love this show too, so I'm feeling very annoyed about the whole thing)

Oh dear… do we know why? Low ticket sales?
I want to see this musical, however, I wasn't excited for this production. Casting a 20 something year old as Dolores gives student production.

Oh god - although I'm not surprised at all, I booked a cheap seat when it went onsale without thinking very hard (I have the Dice app already for gigs - I like that it doesn't charge booking fees at all, but its interface is completely counterintuitive for theatre) and have just gone and checked and appear to be literally the only person who has booked for that performance ... oh, well, a refund to look forward to for something else, I suppose.

Are they meant to be performing at West End Live this weekend?
