Am impressed with this, especially after Episode 2 last night... Outstanding cast, really well written, and- unlike a lot of C4 stuff which caters for people with concentration issues- its surprisingly well done. All sorts of merits in all sorts of areas. And written by the chap who's done the Harry Potter play at the Palace, among other things.
So... is he guilty?

Julie Walters is great but her accent is a bit all over the place in this. That scene with the daughter was very good.
I think we'll find out he's guilty next week and he'll be found not guilty the week after or vice versa. I don't think this will be a 'happy ending' where he justice is served as it should be.

It's more complex than that!

With the Monkey on this one. Haven't seen week two yet, but the first episode dragged, I thought. I've liked the cast in other shows but this just felt way too obvious for me to feel involved with it.
And what mental illness is the daughter meant to have, pray? Looks like a bad case of overwritingitis to me...

I'm loving this. Real class C4 drama. Drip feeding us bits of information So we really don't know if he did it or not. Agree about Julie Walters accent in yesterday's episode. Not like her at all.

It's excellent in my opinion! Really dark drama! Did he do it? I hope the ending is conclusive one way or the other and doesn't leave us hanging to make up our own minds!!!

I agree about Julie Walters' accent... I found it difficult to place at first but have decided it's Scottish. I also agree that Episode 1 dragged a little in places; it was the second episode that suddenly moved up a gear. The scene between JW and Andrea Riseborough upstairs while the party is going on was brilliantly written and played. I also loved the flashback scenes, with the voices of the olders actors used the first time. And that ending...!

The worst thing is when they avoid the conclusion so they can give us National Treasure TOO! c.f. The Fall, Broadchurch etc. The name Marie is popular in both Scotland and Ireland. I believe the Divine Ms Walters is just being democratic and showing off her mastery of both. I agree about the pace. So far it would make a cracking first hour of a film, but I'm hooked and hope the pace starts to pick up with more twists. It's not just a 'Is he Guilty'? It's bringing in the media circus, the family and the who do you believe. I think the ending will come down to just that.

Did the young Julie Walters in this week's episode have a Scottish accent? Didn't sound very Irish to me.

Absolutely! Very disturbing but incredibly acted and written. Lots of stuff to think about, though I'm not sure what I think at the moment! Very brave programming from Channel 4, long may it continue.

Coltrane was excellent in this. I really wasn't sure until the scene with Tim McInerny whether he was guilty or not. Very powerful closing shot.

BRILLIANT TV! Excellent closing episode! Fabulous writing, direction and acting. A great deal to think to think about given the contemporary setting.
