My favourite is when they ask "can I have your autograph? Who do you play in the show?"
If you don't know who they are, why would you want their autograph?!

She posted this photo from the window, imagine having a crowd like that after every show

That isn't too huge a crowd compared to what I've seen before plus factor in Sam Womack and Les Dennis who were recently both in big soap roles so casual fans could decide to stage door. But in B'ham I reckon about 80% were hopefuls.
Carrie's tuppence now that could be a whole new topic!

She's also posted 7 pictures from stage door last week to 'prove her point'...if I were a petty person I'd do the same (I walk past stage door of WMC every day to and from work)

I'm sure Carrie will add her tuppence in to this shortly... Forget Carrie, just wait until Cynthia Erivo sees it. God love her, I'm sure she'll find something racist about those sparkly red boots.

I did in fact spot Ms Fletcher earlier. No hoards to report as yet. May brace myself for the walk home later (how early to they gather do we wonder...?)

Never had the inclination or felt the need to stage door there, although I have in London a few times. I do enjoy CHF's work but I have no wish to try and meet her at stage door - that's what her book signings are for.

It's not actually publically accesible so it's technically not possible to 'stage door' at the WMC, what most actors do if they are willing to meet people is come into the foyer by the coffee shop, which is where people gather (I have all too often tried to exit the building and ended up in a scrum of Jason Donovan fans or similar) Handily (Ms Fletcher may find haha there's ways to get out that aren't via that way especially if a taxi picks you up!) And while I enjoyed a bit of stage dooring as a teen, so I really do get where these young fans are coming from, it is all too often that crossover audinece who aren't getting it. Anyway I was long gone today before anyone was around I'm sure matinee day tomorrow will be a different story!

Whilst it is an interesting one, Carrie strikes me maybe as the sort of performer who would be certifiably gutted if in the future nobody bothered to want to see her at stage door and the books stopped selling.

@theatremonkey BurlyBeaREven if I WAS a Donovan fan 2 weeks of him phoning in Pricilla and dealing with the drunk ladies of certain age there to see him would definatly cure me of that *Shudder* To prove I'm not above personal fangirl shame, the only time I've actually been at Stage Door of the WMC not for work was Alfie Boe. After that confession Donovan is halfway respectable

Did you think of 10 good reasons to stage door Jason then Emi?
Wonder what Cynthia's reaction would be if she was fantasy cast as Lola in Kinky Boots

I am tempted believe me, I wonder if there would be a funnier role that could be suggested to her without being discriminatory - Dianne Abbott the Musical! Lola would be funny because if she kicked off, you could play dumb by saying it is a female role or she'd look a natural as a woman

Somebody should send that to CHF as an example of how to discuss the subject without coming off like a patronising, supercilious little madam.
But don't do that, because if CHF sees it she'll officially approve it, take ownership of it as if she'd written it herself and use it to school us further.

This is such a great blog post. I haven't heard a performer talk about stage door in a way other than "it is such a massive inconvenience for me to have to look at your face after I've finished work" for such a long time.

I have to rant about this because it really annoyed me. At Stage Door of Miss Saigon (on Broadway) last night the little boy who played Tam was coming out with his parents. I've heard that sometimes he/she will come out with a sharpie and sign everyone's Playbills but this time he just walked past quickly because he was on tomorrow according to his parents. But that didn't stop all these crazy fans going "aww Tam so cuuuuteee, awwww take a picture awwww" and his mum kept politely saying "he's got a show tomorrow so..." I don't think I'd have been as polite if he were my child! The poor kid was probably about 6 and probably exhausted, what is their problem! 🙄

I remember one time being at Les Mis and the Gavroche that was on left the SD. We were all like 'awww its Gavroche' then chatted to ourselves that he was very good. He was standing around with his mum. As he left he said bye to us. We were alll 'awwwww'. But that was it.

When they think there might be a lot of people wanting to go to the stage door, they usually have someone from security near the glass doors after the show stopping people from going through, but for others they don't bother!

Oh, right. When I was there I think I was the only person waiting but there were a number of people going through the doors & past the stage door to get to a nearby car park, hence I thought it was alright to be in that area.
