I think it depends on the show. When they think there might be a lot of people wanting to go to the stage door, they usually have someone from security near the glass doors after the show stopping people from going through, but for others they don't bother! Oh, right. When I was there I think I was the only person waiting but there were a number of people going through the doors & past the stage door to get to a nearby car park, hence I thought it was alright to be in that area. It does depend on the show/mood of security! technically only staff and those using the disabled car park are allowed past the sliding glass doors, but to be honest unless there's a "star" in security are fairly lax, and probably assume anyone loitering at the actual stage door are other staff or friends of the company. So as it was 'only' WNO and therefore not that busy nobdoy would have minded! When big stars are in/big musicals that attract crowds, security stands at the automatic doors and that becomes 'Stage Door' (this is also because staff found it hard to get in and out as well without 'help') I'm going to Adams Family on Wedneday I may conduct a survey of stage door  |

Can someone please tell me when it became correct English to drop the definite article when talking about THE stage door?
We don't do this with any other aspect of theatre, we don't say "I'm going to Box Office" or "I'll meet you at entrance" so why do we persist in doing it with THE stage door?
I suspect it's because a bunch of luvvie types started doing it and now everyone is (pathetically) jumping onto (the) bandwagon.i suggest we just stop it, and show it up for the self indulgent artifice that it is.

"Stage door" is a verb ("I might stage door after the show) and "*the* stage door" is a noun, no?

They probably weren't around they were probably having a nice sit down in the control room haha! But seriously, you weren't in any way at fault- that is where the stage door is and unless they're actively keeping people inside the main building there's no way to know! And anyway as you noticed in Opera season it's not very busy with people waiting!

It is a bit weird, I think it's acceptable to use it when talking about the process of stage dooring, as was said, that makes it a verb "Shall we stage door after the show?", but there needs to be a THE when you're talking about going to "the" stage door. |

No, we say I'm goin' t' box office. Totally different. The definite article is present but in abbreviated form. Actually, I would say "Am goo-in' t' Box Office" because I'm from Yorkshire but that's another story  |

Carrie has just had another rant on instagram about how people have tried to block her when leaving from another exit. I find that disrespectful personally as actors leave by another exit to not be herded for photos.

She's now prefixing her rants with "oh no she's having another rant about stagedoor" disclaimers so she obviously realises people are bored to death with her going on and on about it.
I agree with the sentiment, she should be able to leave the threatre without being harassed, but she's wasting her time banging on about it on social media.

She didn't "stage door" because she wanted to get home earlier and get some sleep before early travel the next day. Then instead of that sleep she typed up a long post on "insta" about it all.

Blocking people's way is certainly not on or following performers after they leave theatre. But knowing where various exits are is fine and if certain performers may leave that way isn't anything to complain about. A lot of newer venues have various exits without a defined "stage door" so it can be luck of the draw which doors performers use.

Also it doesn't take a LOT of effort to lie in bed typing an Instagram post...also raise your hand if you've NEVER spent time pissing about on your phone when you should be in bed OR sent and ill advised message even when you shouldn't/should be asleep (not saying it was ill advised just in general)
And as someone who knows the layout of the WMC well, it is quite stalker-y of a group (because it sounds like a group) to be sort of laying in wait for her to emerge elsewhere. Honestly yes she should maybe stop moaning about people AT stage door, but I think it's a legit moan that people feel quite so entitled.

I don't always agree with CHF but she's bang on this time IMO - if someone chooses to leave via another exit it's because they don't have either time or inclination to stop, which is entirely their prerogative, and they should be able to do so in peace.

I can recall Rupert Wickham - Jeffrey Wickham's son and Janie Dee's husband once in virtual Roller Derby gear as he was going to roller blade home, he reckoned it was the quickest way as he could cut through one of the parks.
