She cracked me on the ankle once with her suitcase jumping onto the tube at the last minute. I was just about to give her evils when I realised who it was and just stood there starstruck for the journey. It was in the heyday of Give Us A Clue.

The tremendous Catherine Tate. We’d been to see her fantastic live show at De Montfort Hall in Leicester and were buying some merch afterwards (a v funny tea towel, of all things). The man at the counter told us that Miss T would be signing any merch at the stage door, so we made our way around. There was quite a crowd (and it was a bitterly cold night), but Catherine cheerfully signed everything anyone had. She took dozens of selfies with people on their phones.
We were the very last in the queue. She took the time to ask us how we’d enjoyed the show, sign our tea towel, and take a number of selfies. We told her we’d seen her being equally brilliant in Much Ado About Nothing, and she talked about that for a while, until her minder dragged her back into the warm.
Great show. Lovely lady.

I reserve stage door for a handful of people as I'm not that comfortable with it but I will stage door for any of the actors from the tv show Dallas - one of very few tv shows I love. Having read a fair bit about 'diva' re Priscilla Presley I was a tad nervous but she couldn't have been lovelier, or quicker. She was straight there having just changed her clothes, left the make up on and gone round saying she didn't want people waiting in the cold. Happily signed, posed for pics and chatted, answered questions about Elvis and even asked one lady to send her a copy of the photo she had of Elvis with Priscilla as she's never seen it before.
Just goes to show don't believe what others say about someone, make your own mind up if you meet them!

Just goes to show don't believe what others say about someone, make your own mind up if you meet them! Also depends on people’s moods; same as working with them. There have been shows where normally lovely actors are having a bad day, scowl when you call the half, etc. You learn not to take it personally - people are people and have good or bad days. I’m glad you had a great experience on this occasion.

Didn't realise Aiden Turner or Poldark was such an old ladies magnet. (Never seen the show.) Was shoved out the way by a pack of rabid 40-60 year olds (with their husbands in tow to film the special encounter), most of whom refused to budge once they got their little wish. And they call us young ones crazy...
I turned up to thank the cast, but most of them just slunk away - I didn't want to impose in case they had other engagements or wanted to go home, or if they're all too accustomed to the Aiden Turner fanfest at the stage door.

Is 40-60 what counts as old for women nowadays?

Is 40-60 what counts as old for women nowadays? I jolly well hope not or, as a currently 33 year old, do I have to give up going near any stage doors in 7 years or be stigmatised?

Is 40-60 what counts as old for women nowadays? I jolly well hope not or, as a currently 33 year old, do I have to give up going near any stage doors in 7 years or be stigmatised? Sorry, my mistake with the wording. I meant greater than my age range (EDIT: *older*), and it is not my intention to put a cap on things. I was merely pointing out that nearly 90% of the crowd appeared to fall within those years - not that that should have any bearing on anything, but I was in a rant mode with my post, especially what with all the hoopla younger women sometimes get for their "fangirl" actions. I don't really frequent the stage door, but my experiences have generally been positive thus far. We're imposing on the actors enough as it is, and I expected people to treat the cast and fellow theatre-goers with more respect. Say, less screaming and outright shoving people out of the way?

I had much the same experience with future Dame Tate. She actually photobombed me and I didn’t realise till months later (camera broke). Apropos of nothing, Charlie Edwards shops in my local M&S.

Drama after Blood Brothers (Tour) once when Marti Pellow was starring. Can't remember where, but a young woman appeared completely hysterical- 'Marti,it wasn't me! Marti, you have to believe me, it wasn't me!'. When Marti said something like 'But i saw you filming. Several people saw it.'. And she keeps crying and crying 'It wasn't me!'. He appeared to know her as well.
If I go to a show on my own, I tend to do SD, and always stop after Blood Brothers to say hi. If they're in a rush, fine, and if they have time for a chat, wonderful.
For newbies, when doing SD, and I don't mean to sound pedantic, just bear in mind they don't have chauffeur-driven limousines. Many have to catch public transport to digs/home, or want to keep costs down for car parks, or people (other cast/crew) are waiting for them to give them a lift home, especially on a Saturday.
I'm just saying this as I recently read a comment on social media from a woman who thought all cast of all shows were put up in a nearby hotel, she had no idea they had to find and pay for digs, or their own transport there or home.

At the off-Broadway show "Be More Chill" some fans have been harassing on the actors Gerard Canonico and his loved ones for being straight with a girlfriend and not gay as some of the fans thought. Apparently one on of the fans got his girlfriends number and threatened her not to mess with the fans and if she did all hell would break lose. The poor girl had to change her number because of this. From the stories I've heard from some friends back at NYC is "Be More Chill" stage door is getting out of control with the legions of teenage super fans and with it transferring to Broadway next spring the crazy fans are going to get worse before they get better. Here is the Reddit Thread with the text message from the super fan.

I have stage doored several times in the West End and even though some Wicked fans are crazy, people are generally kind and respectful. Broadway is on another level of craziness.

Oh tinhats. I don't know why but tinhatting is rather in vogue now. (Remind me how many fake kids Benny Cumberbritches is on now?)
It is a truth universally acknowledged that any man in possession of both fame and a female partner will have "stans" online claiming his relationship is fake and threatening his partner.

I don't think they're accusing the girlfriend of being fake just yet, rather, they are angry that she is real! Though give it time....

Carrie Hope Fletcher, every single morning.
*jumps up and down and waves arms* “LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT MEEEE”
... 3 minutes later ...
“Stop staring at me! This is harassment! Why won’t you all leave me alone?!”

In fairness to Lady Fletcher she hasn't gone on one of her big rants about the stage door at the Haymarket yet.
She always has a point and no actor should be harassed but she'll never be able to change the way that the silly public behave.

Who are the large portion of the plebite market of teenage girls she panders to as a social media “influencer”... Otherwise she would be just another young West End lady.

What bothers me about the whole Heathers 'thing' is that I assume I'll be annoyed by the audience behaviour unlike at Hamilton when the fans did go crazy but only at appropriate times. I'd imagine this bad behaviour will extend to the stage door too! I guess I'll see when I go.

Another cast member Jodie Steele had put on Twitter about receiving loads of presents. I'd always considered Carrie a blogger rather than an influencer - none of her fan base have decided to get perms in her honour to achieve her admittedly natural curly look or when they are old enough go on birth control so they can achieve their idol's shape.
Ironically talking of curly hair I was at a Beth Rowley concert tonight and was talking to a regular concert goer who I see at a lot of gigs as we waited in the signing line. This gentleman turned 60 this year and took early retirement due to a back issue, he walks with a stick and has to have a stool at standing gigs but is very quietly spoken or so I thought. Suddenly out of character he yelled "Get to the back of the line" to someone who had noticed trying to queue jump at the side,
Beth looked around and saw the rather embarrassed victim complaining to Beth's husband who was selling the merch. Beth's husband handed her the guy's item and she quickly signed it but took time to chat to everyone else who had waited. My friend wasn't happy that this guy had had his item signed but didn't say anything further as he now felt guilty he had embarrassed Beth.

Laura Benanti has announced that she isn't going to stage door at all during her run of My Fair Lady for health reasons but, she is going to go the extra mile by pre-signing a bunch of playbills to be handed out after each show. I like that she is going to let people know in advance but, let's be honest, the crazy fans will still get mad and complain all over twitter. Laura Benanti
