That her. Karen Hardy. The mysterious woman that (clearly knows her stuff) despite the general public not having any idea who she is, they drag out from hibernation, year after year. Anthony!!!! I can tell you are not a die-hard Strictly fan. Karen Hardly won Strictly with my all time favourite sleb dancer Mark Ramprakash!

Ah, I arrived first week December 2015 and was too busy sorting myself out to know about Strictly. But since becoming aware, I watch it (not necessarily It Takes Two) religiously.

Oh I know Ian left the dancing show as such years ago, but he's stayed as a regular "expert" on It Takes Two with Zoe... He looks at how the couples are doing so far, usually on a Wednesday! If this other chap is stepping into Ian's shoes, then what will Ian do? We met Ian on our Strictly cruise with Camilla. He was charming, as was she... He revealed (in a Q/A session) that he would dearly love a role as some kind of judge/commentator or such like on the main show. Oh God - I hope we don't lose Ian on ITT!!  He isn't the ballroom expert though, is he? Isn't that Karen Hardy?
Karen's no more a ballroom expert than Ian is! They both competed in Latin in their competition days. The only true ballroom specialists on the show are Natalie, Joanne and Anton. |

I thought there was some serious over-marking the second night - love Tameka, but that wasn't her dance, it was almost like she was sending it up. The music didn't help. Her partner is cute, but maybe not a great choreographer? Love Daisy too, but she was over-marked. Hope Ed Balls stays in for at least a decent (say Jeremy Vine) amount of time. I think they are right - he is the sort of person this show is about and (sweetly) you can tell how much he wants to do well and how disappointed he was that he didn't do better. Danny Mac is going to be entertaining, but as said above, he is a dancer so it's not as interesting, whereas Greg Rutherford's progress will be (he definitely is pigeon-toed so that's going to be something to overcome.) I think Melvin and Naga might be in the first dance-off. I don't think they will have the same following as some of the others. Reckon it's going to be a fun series! Agree about the over-marking... several people in the 30s on the first show!! I don't think that has ever happened before.

I enjoy the show but it has got very serious. Generally a high standard but I miss the fun elements of previous series - Russell Grant and Julian (I live to dance) Clary for example. Lots of people already at the top of their game, such as Danny Mac with nowhere to go. Not as interesting as someone who has had no dance training but talented and watching them improve from week to week. The bit in bold is why I enjoyed the first week of this series so much - that "fun" is not entertainment to me at all - it makes a mockery of the dancing, and the dancing is why I watch! |

Agree about the over-marking... several people in the 30s on the first show!! I don't think that has ever happened before.
There's almost always someone in the 30s in the first show - series 1 was the only series where that didn't happen. I'll have to watch more carefully!! Did seem as if some (quite a lot) of the contestants were already at "the top of their game" though, and I am wondering where they will go from there. (Perhaps I should have said that the overall standard seemed higher than usual for an opening week...  )

I should probably start watching this properly so can see the scores and judging but recently have been watching the you tube clips to get out of cringe watching Tess or spending my time fast forwarding/rewinding to see the bits I want!! It does seem like an exceptionally talented bunch this year. I can't wait to see how this years clebs get on!!

I usually try to watch it on catch up precisely so that I don't have to endure the "hey to improve your performance this week I invited your husband/wife/baby to the rehearsal room!" bits. However I did see that one of the male celebs got his own wife in on the act right from the get-go. Or maybe it was the wife getting herself in on the act, mindful of the "Rihanoff Factor" perhaps.

(Are they considered a bit easier??!) As foxa says, they have mixed it up a bit, but I think that must make it more difficult for the judges (and us!) to compare. I agree that they seem very likeable; it's always good to see a different side of their personalities on the sofa with Zoe (who was a bit manic last night! Calm down, Zoe! You're there now for the next three months!) |

Waltz and cha cha aren't easier at an advanced level, but they probably are the easiest in terms of picking up the basics.
No idea why they had a Paso Doble in week 1 and are having Viennese Waltz this week though.

Yeah they do. Well actually, I think each couple miss out one of 'each' dances (one ballroom, one latin). In general though a lot will do the Paso.
I have to say I think the music let Tameka down as it was a bit cheesy. I think they were hoping for a bit of comedy but that's not what they got. Hopefully people will begin to take her more seriously as the series goes on (if they don't go down the comedy dance route). I've been a fan since 3 Non-Blondes.

I agree, d'James, the music was so traditional and a bit corny and it didn't work with their partnership. But she's a good dancer - I think she will shine in other dances (and she is a lot of fun.)

I LOVED the music! It reminded me of Come Dancing... Monday nights... withTerry Wogan (and someone else before him, with a combover.) The North West formation team. Sequins. Flowing dresses. Hairdos done with lacquer. Numbers stuck on the men's backs. I'm sure there was a dance with a salute in somewhere. Would that have been the Military Twostep? Or was that just something made up by Joyce Grenfell?
(Oh Lord! Now that's got me thinking about Face The Music and the dummy keyboard...!)
