If Joan Collins is in it she'd demand long gloves for every costume, to hide her old withered hands!

I'm surprised Michael Portillo has never considered Strictly, I suspect his many TV commitments prevent him from doing it

Forgive my ingorance (and I hold my hand up to this) but given what the priest does and his uniform, it'd be interesting to see him in sparkling spandex with cleavage in the Ltin routines.

Edit: I may be wrong....I'll crawl away now I think. I'm surprised Michael Portillo has never considered Strictly, Honestly think I'd prefer Farage. Well, on second thoughts that's a tough call! given what the priest does and his uniform, it'd be interesting to see him in sparkling spandex with cleavage in the Ltin routines. Thanks for that image I now can't unsee anthony40 .

(Pardon the pun here) is it just me but it's a HUGE leap of faith from electro pop band to Priesthood in the first place let alone dancing national television fir entertainment purposes.
And most of these celebs 'block time' to put their personal like and career on hold for such a thing.
Does this mean he won't hold a Mass/Christening/Funeral and other Church community related events or tend to the needs of his partitioners during this time?

(Images of Father Ted's My Lovely Horse video sequence last before my eyes) I presume you mean parishioners. Same question's been put to him on twitter and he says he has arranged cover. Presumably he did the same for other shows he's been on. And many celebs don't put their lives on hold - plenty manage to fit Strictly around their other commitments, as we see on the VTs every year...

Aston Merrygold of JLS fame is on the list apparently. Where's the 'unlike' button? I'm wondering who the 'big' name will be that always seems to go out first or second a la Martina Hingis, Stephanie Beacham, Goldie.

I used to love Holby years ago during the Tom Chambers and Luke Roberts years. Tried to start watching again when Lee Mead went into it recently but it's awful. Rubbish boring stories, dreadful acting and a complete snoozefest. But a good catch for Strictly I think.

No idea who he is! I usually know of at least half of them, but this year looks like that may not happen if this week is anything to go by!

Joe McFadden was the lead in a very good BBC adaptation of Iain Banks's The Crow Road years ago with Peter Capaldi.

Richard Coles was a bit of a leftfield choice but an interesting one, he is witty on the various panel shows he has been on but I've no idea what he is like as a dancer. Also at 55 he may be one of the older contestants so could be an early exit sadly.
Joe McFadden has done a fair amount of theatre and TV work over last 20 odd years. He played lead in Chitty so has done some dancing, so should be a reasonable contestant given his performing background.
