WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE: The Sequel

It’s always less impressive though when you remember that the celebrity in question has pay $50,000 for the honour themselves. Not necessarily true. Oftentimes, it's fan clubs that raise the money; ages ago, I was part of Jackman's Landing, donating funds when Hugh was working in "Boy from Oz" on Broadway. There was a time I contacted a well known British stage/screen star's agent to see about getting the process started for a star in Hollywood; the agent called me back and said the actor had declined, that if the application was to be launched, it had to go through his fan club, and at that point, he was subsidising the costs of the fan club out of his own pocket. If all the stars were self-funded, every pavement in Los Angeles County would be covered in them.
Here's the criteria:
The Walk of Fame includes six categories:
Motion Pictures Television Radio Recording Live Theatre/Performance Sports Entertainment
All Nominations must include these documents:
Photo of the nominee Brief bio of nominee – no more than 2 pages Nominee’s qualifications List of contributions to the community and civic-oriented participation of the nominee Letter of agreement from the nominee or his/her management
The committee will select approximately 30 names for insertion into the Walk. Nomination of an individual or group must be approved by the Walk of Fame Committee, sometimes requiring several annual nominations before a nominee is selected to receive a star. The most qualified artists nominated are eligible for a star to be installed in the Walk during the subsequent year. Those not selected for the current year are requested to resubmit for the following nomination period. Should the sponsor not want to make a second attempt, they must notify the Hollywood Chamber immediately, and the application will be pulled.
The criteria for receiving a star consists of the following: professional achievement, longevity in the category of five years or more, contributions to the community and the guarantee that the celebrity will attend the dedication ceremony if selected. Posthumous awards require a five-year waiting period.
After the Walk of Fame Committee has made its selections, the Hollywood Chamber’s Board of Directors also votes to approve the star and then for a final approval, the names are submitted to the City of Los Angeles’ Board of Public Works Department.
All honorees must be approved by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the decisions of which are final and entirely within the Chamber’s discretion. Nomination and selection procedures, forms, and qualifications are guidelines only, entirely within the Chamber’s discretion, and are subject to change at any time, without notice.

I'm not sure if she is being serious in this tweet or if she is just dramatic. Tweet

She is certainly living up to her reputation ... whichever it is.

I can take or leave Ms LuPone but she's bang-on here. Theatre has been dumbed down, here in the UK as well. Audiences who don't know how to behave, over-pricing, unimaginative producers - and don't get me started on those who join a standing ovation like sheep. There is still great theatre to be enjoyed but truly memorable evenings that challenge and thrill (think 'The Doctor') are increasingly rare.

Those dues she is too entitled to pay go a long way to help members get healthcare and more services they sorely need. Miss LuPone doesn't need them because she's wealthy. She could easily pay those dues and not bat an eyelash, continuing to support those in the trenches who she has worked along for decades. But no. It's all about her.
As usual, entitled, arrogant, immature. A true egomaniac.

Patti is the guest on Michelle Visage's Rule Breakers podcast, available on BBC Sounds.
A really enjoyable listen.

She’s trending on twitter for dropping an F-bomb on TV. But saw this also.
Obviously there’s no love lost between her and ALW, but have to say, I agree with her. I don’t think any show is so good that it deserves to run for decades.

Miss LuPone turned 75 yesterday.
I also receive notification from a friend yesterday that he is attending her Sydney concert in mid-June. He paid AUD 130 per ticket.

She's such a mean-spirited performer. She barely has a good word to say about anyone and, if she does, that seems to then change at some point down the road to suit her mood. She's had a great career, is a supreme talent, and undoubtedly a 'star', so I'm not sure why she needs to be so ungracious. I will, though, give her the ALW debacle, although she's always said she also hated 'Evita', hated Hal Prince, hated how ALW had written that score, and was clearly miffed Elaine Paige was almost flown in to replace her in the west coast US premiere - hardly Paige's fault.

Interesting. She’s in Ryan Murphy’s orbit, so I wonder how involved she’ll be?

Love that she’s following in the footsteps of her idol Glenn Close by performing at the London Coliseum.

Although I can never understand a word she is singing I shall try and get a ticket. If you are gay it's compulsory isn't it?

Yes, I saw that tweet this morning. I wonder if she's performing the same Australian concerts over here, or if this will be an entirely different show?

PLP's enunciation was the butt of jokes for a very long time - Forbidden Broadway did a very funny sketch lampooning her at the time that Les Miz opened - but I have to admit when I last saw her ("Company" at the Gielgud) I could hear every word.

There is a guy on TikTok who sings modern pop songs in the style of PLP, exaggerated of course, but always a giggle!
