I find her total honesty refreshing. In an industry where there is so much bull**it and fear of calling people out or telling the truth for fear of not getting the next job, I love how she says it like it is.
If more people were as fearless as her, we may see a truer picture of some of the people who’ve been put on pedestals.

I appreciate frankness, but it increasingly feels like she is playing a character "Brash Patti Lupone Who Tells It Like It Is," often bordering on caricature. She could benefit from a "Director" who might rein in this performance. YMMV.

She continues to S#!% on Lloyd Webber and his works - despite the fact that were it not for Evita, she would be "Patti who?" That's about the most classless and mean-spirited comment I've read in a while. |

She has absolutely zero reason to self edit at this stage in her career - she’s said a number of times she doesn’t think she’d do musicals again but then Company came along, so I’m sure she’s not worried about job prospects at this point in life. Who ever says anything nice about their old boss, if they’re fired from a job they were perfectly capable of doing? As much as I love Glenn Close in Sunset, Patti was ultimately replaced in a musical by someone less vocally gifted - who then went on to win a Tony award. That has to sting and whilst I’m sure it doesn’t anymore, I see no reason to let ALW off the hook just because it doesn’t hurt anymore. |

I guess it just seems so petty at this point. Yes she was treated poorly - but ever since then it's a complete re-writing of history where she goes out of her way to pan ALW's music. She rips Evita as being one of the worst experiences of her life (dismisses that score - even though she kept doing subsequent productions of it) it was so bad that she actively auditioned and wanted Sunset when it seemed every female actress was jealous of her getting the role of Norma. The fact that she wasn't well received was in part the production itself which was vastly improved by the time it got to Los Angeles - but was also just her not being right for the part. In any event, when she went on the Grammy's two years ago to sing Dont Cry for Me Argentina and there was that public meeting and moment where she announced a "detente" it appeared, momentarily that they had reconciled. ALW gushed about her and seemed obviously eager to mend fences. But days later she had to go out of her way to say that nothing changed there was no "peace" treaty. It's just a sad, ugly look to me - and there's way too much of that sh*t in the world right now |

Something about it being too consistently high and demanding throughout. I actually agree with that - I tend to prefer Madonna’s softer vocal approach to Evita if I’m honest... it makes the character more sympathetic imo. I just don’t like the idea that anyone calls out someone as being ugly for having a consistent opinion on something. I especially disagree with the undertone that a woman should keep quiet in order to appear dignified in an attempt to appease onlookers. |

Love her or loathe her, LuPone is something of legend and - of course - no one should ever resort to personal insults. She is, though, not averse to using them against others herself - and often in really nasty tones. She's always been singularly ungracious about 'Evita'. Yes, it's a vocal Everest, but there are plenty of other talented ladies who played it wonderfully over the years without resorting to unpleasantries. The fact she wasn't up to it is more about her than the role. Personally, I think she's great value and when she's face-to-face with an intelligent interviewer she's really great fun and very engaging - but she's turning into a bit of an unpleasant, bitter cliche. And that's sad.

Surely we’re well overdue a Patti at the Palladium concert? Would be an amazing event once everything’s back to normal, and I’d pay £100s to be honest, especially if she did some Sunset Boulevard numbers.
I’m just imaging an evening of her belting Evita, Les Mis, Sunset, Gypsy, Sweeney, Company, Anything Goes, the setlist would be insane.

I'd love to see Patti in concert again. Last time I saw her in concert was Divas at the Donmar and that was more years ago than I care to remember.
Mind you we would need surtitles at the theatre to actually understand what she is singing.
The Anything Goes video reminds me of a very funny version on one of the Forbidden Broadway cd's where the words "Anything Goes" is substituted for "Patti LuPone". Its hilarious.
