Only a week or so to go now. As I said a while back, I returned my opening night tickets. Figured I'd let others discover what the situation is before committing to visiting myself.
I look forward to the memoirs of someone or another who's been in the centre of this show to come out, we might get a bit more context than the random press reports.
On that point, when is ALW going to publish the 1986-onwards edition of his autobiography? (and if he can get a few fewer references to his sexual prowess, that would be welcome).

Philip, Ellen, Scott; the MUAs, dressers, wiggles; the musicians- gosh, their combined experience and the THINGS they must have seen! Some sort of closure surely needed all round

@ admin ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ only responding to the fact that some posters here sounded like they needed a safe space in order to speak out honestly! quite enjoy the difference in opinion personally, and especially some of the more knowledgeable posts from those who have worked in the industry/ been close to the show and not just purely speculating based on emotion

Despite what we were promised on numerous occasions, the chandelier has been replaced by an emergency exit sign. I hope all those unnecessarily positive TB members are happy now? You should all be forced to sit through Kinky Boots...matinee and evening! 🤣

Ok so it sounds like the consensus is that the changes made to the show are not that big of a deal, and anybody who mentions them is just being a crybaby, and we should be happy that the show is reopening at all, and the changes probably won't even be that noticeable, and if that is all you can talk about that you are just being negative when you could look at it as a new 21st century version of the show so what is wrong with you?
It seems that many of us come to this thread simply to check if people are still talking about the changes, and if so, they complain about the people complaining about the changes, but then offer nothing to further an alternative discussion. So in summary, complaining about the changes is bad, but complaining about the complaining is ok.

I’m curious to know if anybody here saw Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman et al. in 1986, and, if so, what did you think of that original cast?

People stated whats going from the production and how it won't be the same, people responded in various ways. Discussion had. Whats more to be said that hasn't already been said? Repeating comments over and over, from both sides of the discussion, is tiring.
Once this production opens and people have seen it, then everyone should say what they think of it, including what they miss from the original and how it's been changed.
Or maybe post a seperate thread for things people miss from old shows and productions? like the angel, or the barricades, or CB from Starlight. Just a thought.

I mean, if a thread gets tiring, people could always choose not to read it...? Novel idea, I know. The idea of a separate thread for the original production was proposed multiple times. The mods have said they don't want it. I'm not sure why posters seem so keen to proclaim themselves chairpersons of the discussion. So long as the discussion is not targeted personally at people, I don't see the problem (and while I see a poster above seems to think this comes from those who would prefer the show not to be diluted, this seems odd when anyone who dares to question the changes is dismissed as a "whingebag", "doommonger", or "out of touch with reality", or, in one case, is even told to "bore off"). And things haven't been repeated ad infinitum. The post I made about Hal Prince's comments on not wanting to change the original production were new to the thread. Only one poster wanted to comment on it. The rest were silent. There seems to be a case of double-standards here. Apparently posters are welcome to post about the show that "no one has seen" if it post expresses excitement or proclaims that it will be "bigger and more spectacular than ever". But if someone questions some of the designs that have already been revealed or the comments by the producers, then apparently they must shut up and keep quiet. It's a bit like when LND was previewing and slated by many on a certain other board. ALW complained that it wasn't fair to comment on previews, despite the fact that the official site had no problem in retweeting enthusiastic tweets for preview audience members. Also, when creative team members have actually told at least 2 of us apparently the same story re the chandelier independently, saying that this story is "unlikely" is well...an unlikely statement in itself.

Thoughts on the new trailer? Doesn't look that new...basically it's the old one with Ben Lewis interspliced with similar poses from Killian/Lucy who appear to have filmed this when they did that photoshoot (not on the stage of HM's).

TBFl, how about you make a promise to yourself that you'll ignore any posts about the show changes, since they appear to bother you so very much? It might make your day a little brighter.
Scarpia, would you mind elaborating on what story the creative team told people about the chandelier? Thanks.

I did - and let's say the original cast had a range of ages whereas the new cast photos on the whole look - dare I say - on the "young" side or that might just be me. When I saw the new rehearsal photos yesterday I was surprised at how young the new Carlotta looks. Usually they seem to cast actresses who are 40-ish so visibly older than Christine. This time both actresses look about the same age. Though I don't I know how old Saori Oda is so maybe she's older than she looks. And admittedly opera singers in the 19th century tended to start their careers at a younger age than opera singers do nowadays so Carlotta could have started her career in her late teens and risen to be the Paris Opera prima donna while still under 30. (I may be overthinking this!)

Stop moderating the thread! Please? Please stop? "Then everyone should say what they think of it". You're telling people when they're allowed to post their thoughts 🤣

Lucy St Louis is quite a bit older than Christine is supposed to be. But I suppose it's unlikely to get anybody the right age who could actually play the role.

Anyone else bored of the same 3 or 4 people saying the same thing over and over again? I will be gutted if the new production is awful compared to the old but am open to some changes as it was looking a bit dated. The lightning effect was awful and if those fireball effects are improved then all the better.
