That’s nice. I’ll never forgive her for the “Swedish” accent though 🙄

I saw it last night, first time up close to the stage. I've only been in the cheap(er) seats before. It was probably my most enjoyable visit for that reason. Anyway, how do they do the chair at the end? He obviously goes backwards into the chair somehow but how do they do it without any movement to the blanket covering him?

I’ve noticed that when he pulls the sheet across himself he always seems to place it very carefully. So I assume it’s resting on some sort of support away from his body so he can go into the back of the chair without us seeing the sheet move.

I'm sure I'd read different at some point in the past, from a veritable source not tumblr etc. but happy to concede. According to Michael Crawford, for at least some time during his original run with Sarah Brightman, the two of them would sing along to the pre-recorded track of the title song every night. This resulted in a particularly humorous mishap one night when the track stopped, however, told as only Michael can tell it!

Have they cancelled all Sunday matinee performances? We were going have a look for today's matinee (parents visiting and want to see it!) but the tickets in the day seats sold out instantly and when I looked, Sunday matinee have all been taken off sale?

The last Sunday Matinee was on the 13th February. It plays Monday to Saturday now with a Thursday Matinee making a return from the end of June. Always worth checking back after 8 minutes as unsold seats in baskets are released.

I believe Paul Daniels did the illusions for the show and you can Google it as so many sites give it away

Could it be another royalties thing? Slowly phase out the original if Michael and Sarah etc are entitled to a bigger percentage of sales compared to whatever contracts the current cast have negotiated?
I don't know how cast recordings work, but it would fit with the theme of cost cutting and increasing profits

Killian as Phantom though... really?! Ugh.
As an aside, widely considered to be a pretty weak cast overall... Shame.
I'd rather a new recording of the upcoming Australian cast, to be honest. Piterman is wonderful.

Oh damn, it releases tomorrow? Hell, even a recording of the Broadway cast, since we've never had a Broadway cast recording...

Is this a cast recording, or are they just releasing The Phantom of the Opera song? Given it's being released at such short notice, I'd imagine it will be a download only version of the title song.

I wonder if he splurged for a bigger orchestra for the recording

Yeah I saw that notice and wondered the same thing, is it a re-recording of the title song or a full new cast recording. Strange that there's been nothing said about it being worked on or coming if it's a full recording.
And considering how cheap things have gotten, I wonder if they simply have the vocals over previous recorded orchestrations

Piterman is wonderful. As an aside, widely considered to be a pretty weak cast overall 'By whom?' By most familiar with the show, I'd say. Just look at the comments not only on this board but on most/all other theatre boards and on social media. Even fans of the new production seem to prefer James Gant in the title role. I think the fact they're doing this suggests they're trying to think of random ways to promote a show that's struggling with no international tourists (particularly from Asia) and a domestic audience that either hasn't yet returned or don't want to. Not expecting this to be a full cast recording. They're expensive to make and if it's a live one it's going to sound pretty awful with that orchestra compared to the original and the Albert Hall ones. If they had really been making a full cast album then the recording would be listed as an upcoming release on countless sites and they would have promoted the hell out of it on social media.
