A bit late to the party but finally, got to see this last night, thanks to a Rush ticket.
I think all the cast are phenomenally engaging and the two leads Blair Gibson (playing Elder Price) and Conner Peirson (playing Elder Cunningham) extremely accomplished and skilled physical actors, Connor Peirson's facial expressions really reminded me of Alan Carr.
But I didn't feel the show was nearly as funny or as clever as I was expecting, it's not a patch on for example Operation Mincemeat. I felt that the music was also somewhat uninspiring, I don't think I can remember a single tune.
And I don't feel I am easily shocked but I'm really surprised more people haven't objected to the jokes about baby rape, to the credit of the audience last night when this line was first delivered there was an audible groan rather than a laugh. I didn't find the jokes about female circumcision hilarious either. So it's certainly not a feel-good comedy for me. And if you are above the age of 10, are you really going to find the repeated line "maggots in the scrotum" funny?
I was expecting more of a satirical show, rather than cheap lines that were just shocking for the sake of being shocking.
This was the first time I had been to the Prince of Wales theatre and it is a lovely venue. I was also very impressed that there was a clear audible announcement that phones and devices should be turned off before the show starts, I don't understand why more theatres don't do this.
And it was a really good and engaged audience last night, which hasn't always been my experience in recent shows...
