3 very engaging finalists. I was at the cinema so only just caught up.
Daft I know, but It was almost as if the Beeb knew it was their last one with that humungous showstopper challenge.
I loved how the technical brought it all back to basics. About time! I made a 4 egg Vicky Sponge last week. I did it in two loaf tins so it was a sort of Victoria Loaf Cake. It was IMMENSE, in every sense of the word.

Watching Extra Slice for the first time. Candice looks gorgeous.
Jo Brand cant say anything without reading it off a cue card. Dreadful.

Yes - I thought that about Jo Brand.
I've watched Extra Slice every week though, and I haven't noticed her doing it before. Strange.

Did anyone watch the show the other night about the class of 2015? I'd forgotten what an absolute great bunch of contestants they had last year. Nadiya was such a deserving winner and so humble. Her winning speech was so touching and she was exactly the same talking about her year since winning. Really made me a bit emotional watching it which is so daft!

I think they did it the year before as well with the class of 2104. Nadiya is so likable and has a great sense of humour. Wonderful facial expressions too. I do believe she will be around for quite a long time. She is one of those people who is only referred to by their first name.

I think, I hope Nadiya is a genuine discovery that sometimes happens in these things. Her programmes on Bangladesh were really good and she is breathtakingly articulate, able to express real stuff without sounding rehearsed or scripted...a one off find. I hope she finds her niche in telly long term.

Just so you know. The full Junior Bake Off Series 4 is on iPlayer right now and I highly recommend it - just don't tell me who wins yet.
The format is slightly different with different presenters and judges (including Nadiya this year).
It was made for CBBC so the presenters are a bit more silly but once you're used to it I really like them (always had a crush on Mark anyway - can't beat the Birmingham accent).

Just seen the new C4 Bake Off line up. Ughhh! (*switches off*)
Looking forward to the new BBC show, The Big Family Cooking Showdown hosted by Nadiya.

I love the new line-up, it's Magpie to the BBC's Blue Peter (showing my age here).

I'm also a fan of the new line-up, but this kinda thing never tends to bother me. I love Bake Off, I was going to watch it on Channel 4 regardless of who they chose. S'only a TV show, innit!

OK. I'm just going to say it. I have never heard of Noel Fielding and when I saw his picture I thought it was Noel Gallagher. *Crawls back under rock*

More like Upstairs, Downstairs to You Rang M'Lord...
Oh, and Paul Hollywood went with the show "for the crew" not for the six figure salary he's being paid!

Toksvig - too smug and clever Leith - too cold and posh Fielding - too daft and scruffy.
Out of all of them Prue Leith is the worst appointment. The appeal of Mary was that despite being incredibly middle class, she's never claimed to be anything other than a good and possibly rather plain home cook. Prue Leith is an ex Michelin star chef, she has a cookery school and sits on a panel on Great British Menu with other posh people judging other professional chefs. She does not have the common touch and THAT is what made this show great.
It will run two series on 4 then die on its arse.

Agree with all of this - Prue Leith is not a Mary substitute, unless you're just looking at the 'window dressing' - older, female cook! Beyond that, there is a vast canyon of difference between them, not least that Mary is instinctively a warm, friendly presence, tough when needed, but never harsh. Prue has spent the past 10 years (god, it's been going a long time), on GBM, very harshly criticising the very best British chefs and their Michelin star-level food. The balance of judging on GBBO was that Paul was the 'tough to please, focus on technique, professional baker' and Mary was the 'home cook, who knows how things should taste'. As for the presenters, I suspect they've just seen Mel and Sue as two comedians, who can be replaced with almost any comedic presence on the show - this might be the bigger mistake than employing Prue! If you look at GBBO for Comic Relief specials, when they didn't have Mel and Sue presenting, showed just how much was lost from the show when they weren't there. I agree this is a line-up that will struggle to connect with the public, in the way that the original one did. I'll give them a few episodes to see if they can bed it in, but I'm not hopeful!

Also, Noel Fielding doesn't look like he's ever eaten a piece of cake in his life.

I think Toksvig is v professional and will do a good job. Don't like Prue L and don't know who the other guy is. 😳

Switch one smart funny lesbian for another, and one panto comedy sidekick for another. I'm actually more willing to give it a go now than I was when they originally announced the move. Can't guarantee I'll like it, but I'll certainly give it a fair go.
