Just got in from this and I really wouldn't advise it for no reason other than it's a bit boring at times, the plot is all about lurve and the set isn't exciting enough to entertain when the story drags. Fine for grown ups but a bit meh for the kids. Pleased I saw it but nothing more than that.

Thanks all for your input. I think he'd sit through it but if it's not got many funny/exciting bits then he'd prob be a bit bored so will give it a miss I think. He'll just have to wait for wicked and Matilda at the end of next year!

I was just coming in to say a colleague saw it last night and had a bored kid next to him...so perhaps not exciting enough to entertain littler ones! Matilda will be great though!
Off to see this tonight. I have 'Crazier than You' stuck in my head. argh!

I must say that the cast are uniformly excellent and everyone was in good, strong voice. I thought Sam Womack was underplaying it at first but hers is a very understated Morticia. For me the stand outs were the Beinekes especially the lady playing Alice. Carrie was as good as I'd expected. It's a very flat show to me, saved only by the big chorus numbers and performances.

Saw this last night, and I had a lovely evening out. Sometimes it's ok for something to just be a 'nice enough evening out' and that's how I'd summarise Adams. For me personally after a lot of rather intense theatre going I found it glorious to sit back, turn my brain off a bit and just let a bit of entertainment wash over me. There's nothing you can particularly fault about this- it's a nice enough little story, with some nice (if not standout) music, and an all round good cast. I wouldn't put it in my top 10 but I'd certainly put it on a list to recommend to people.
Overall the cast were good. I adored Cameron Blakely as Gomez- it's really his show and he works it. Also is it wrong I find him quite attractive? Anyway, Sam Womack I really liked too- I think the 'bland' thing is just her take on Mortica and I really warmed to her which is odd considering. Carrie has a great voice and is really fantastic at acting through song but I do find her acting-acting a bit flat. Not as flat sadly as Oliver Ormson who I found the only weak link. Meanwhile Les Dennis seems to have a lovely time as Fester!
All in all a fun, frivolous night out.
Now if someone could get 'When You're and Adams' out of my head, I'd be really really happy.

I think perhaps Lucas is the least interesting role in the show, so there wasn't a ton of chances to shine. Yes that may well be the case, but I thought that (as a....."community") we were past such pathetic pedantry. There are plenty of things you can notice and keep to yourself without pointing them out...having read Emi's rather marvellous dissertation I can assure you that she is no linguistic slouch. 👍😀

1. I had honestly never noticed that it's spelled 'Addams' having never actually watched the films or TV show it's not something I'd paid attention to. 2. I'm dyslexic so that's EXACTLY the sort of thing my brain misses. 3. Autocorrect on a phone is a marvellous thing for creating easy your/you're type typos. 4. I didn't realise I was being docked marks for typos in my posts. 5. I can however spell 'cockwomble'

That was already one of the two. Right now it looks as though far more mistakes are being made in pointing out other people's mistakes than there were original mistakes. I'm getting confused. Well, saw this at the matinee today. Took a bunch of friends, 9 of us total. Was so looking forward to it but we all thought it was very much below par.
I don't know if the cast weren't up for it, Sunday matinee etc, or the audience weren't up for it or both but Christ it was leaden. The jokes did not land at all and there was just something wrong with the pace of it.
Gomez was good, he was the only one with any real energy, and I thought Samantha Womack was ok but the other eight read her deadpan as dead bored.
One thing bugged the sh*t out of me. The ancestors/ghosts all being dressed in different costumes looked hideously messy in the ensemble numbers. Hugely distracting. Why not just dress them all as ghosts so that everyone knew what was going on? Also, members of the ensemble hanging about on stage for no reason throughout. Did somebody want to get their money's worth out of them?
Terrible shame. Maybe we got it on a bad day.

I enjoyed it a lot at Wimbledon where it went down well with the rather elderly audience, including me of course! Regarding the ancestors all being dressed differently, I took this to represent different historical periods and I found it funny in the same way as I loved the scene in Spamalot where we got all the typical French caricature characters arriving on stage, a scene that was sadly cut in the touring version, presumably because of the reduced size of the company. I also particularly liked the score of The Addams Family and the excellent orchestrations that made full use of the various tones and orchestral colours, often for comic effect. |

She is supposed to be deadpan and not have much personality. I mean i thought she lacked a bit of life and energy when i saw it but thought that was intentional? With regards to the ensemble, they are all supposed to be different people and from different era's so hence why they all had different costumes, i read they wanted to give them all their distinct roles and history. The random appearance of them in scenes was i think supposed to depict the spirits roaming around the house and the idea it was a haunted house. |

I recall from a clip I saw of the Broadway production that all the ancestors were wearing white but I might be wrong it was a while ago! |
