Helena Bonham Carter at Donmar last night, she asked an elderly gentleman sat in the bar area if the space next to him was free, he replied in the negative, when his wife returned from the toilet he explained that he'd had a hard job keeping her seat as Helena Bonham Carter wanted it, 'Cheek!' was her one word reply. I assume she was not a fan ;O) HBC took it on the chin then? Didn't say "do you know who I am?" Didn't drop the H-Bomb? No perfectly well behaved, she's not really an actress who can do incognito really is she but just milled around like everyone else and I think her seat quest was for an older companion. Oh also not in best seats, slumming it up in the circle so can't have been given house seats.

I think we should have a thread for Bad Behaviour By Performers and get those anecdotes flowing

Graham Norton at Grey Gardens on Friday. My mother once stepped on Helena Bonham Carter whilst rushing past her in our row at the Donmar at Coriolanus.

I have sat in so many theatres over my time and can only think of one occurance where I may or may not have seen a celebrity and one where I definitely did. I've probably been in the presence of many but I'm really not very observant.
Anyway, definitely saw Rupert Grint at Wicked a few years ago, and may or may not have seen Vanessa Redgrave at Carousel when it was at the Barbican back in 2012.

Sweeney Todd in Chichester a few years back. Stephen Sondheim and Charles Hart. Spoke to SS at the interval and shook his hand... Flirted a bit with the lovely CH and told him he was my second Musical Theatre Hero spotted that night. ""Who's the first?" he asked. I told him, and he went to seek him out...

Mark Gatiss and Amanda Abbington at Les Liaisons Dangerous Saturday matinee, supporting Sherlock co-star Una Stubbs. According to his twitter Mark made a day of it and went to Nell Gwyn later as well...(he looked terribly dapper and handsome I must say...)

Mark Gatiss is becoming the new Alan Rickman where theatregoing is concerned. I see him almost as often as I don't see him. He was in Stratford a couple of weeks ago.

I'll gladly see Mark Gatiss anywhere. Ahem. (yes, I may have a bit of a thing for him, somewhere between wanting him to be my nerdy big brother and him being a handsome ginger fellow )

Seen a fair few 'famous people' at the theatre, but my 'actually sat next to' list consists of:
Judi Dench (and family) - Bracken Moor at the Tricycle Theatre (June 2013)
Bobby Crush - Whats It All About? Bacharach Reimagined at the Menier Chocolate Factory (July 2015)

I was very fortunate to go to the Book of Mormon premiere and was sat in a box closest to the stage. As I'd already seen the show I thoroughly enjoyed people watching in the audience. There were too many names to mention but I did get to chat to Matt Stone and Trey Parker, got a wave from Graham Norton and a smile from Kate Winslet. My friend was fan girling over the cast of downton abbey and of Damien Lewis.
Others I've been sat in front of Brian may in WWRY, next to Bryn Terfyl in Sweeney Todd (Staunton and Ball version).

I went to see Spamalot very early in it's Broadway run and one person in the audience kept laughing in really odd places... couldn't work out who it was but afterward we went to the stage door and the guy my (now) wife was stood next to mentioned the same thing, paused then went "there he is... John f-ing Goodman laughing at all his mates!". Cary Ewles was in the audience that night too.
Elsewhere I attend most every Chichester press night and there are generally a few recognisable faces not associated with the particular show about, Julian Glover for one.

Ran into Andy Mientus (Smash, amongst other things) and his fiance Michael Arden (hunchback of Notre dame) at a random Sunday matinee of assassins last year. We had a nice conversation in the foyer after the show (they clearly knew Aaron Tveit well and were waiting for him).
And I saw Alexandra Burke at Memphis in the last few weeks of the run.
Again both of these stories were left on the old forum but thought I'd repost them here.
