Poor Patti! So talented and yet Madonna got to play Evita in the movie version, Glenn did Norma on Broadway, no wonder she's bitter with the Hollywood establishment... The woman actually loves dishing on other performers, she said Neil Patrick Harris wasn't quite ready when rehearsals for the NY philharmonic concert of Company started and blamed Sherie Rene Scott for "Women on the verge.." flopping on Broadway

To be honest I think Patti calls other people out because it's part of the caricature of who 'Patti LuPone' is now. I think she's a very gifted woman, but boy does she use the fact she can hit certain notes to look down on others. The movie version of Evita isn't brilliant, but it did well at the box office at a time movie musicals weren't really being made - and I much prefer Madonna's score to Patti's... Yeah honestly reading her bio, is there anyone (other than Sondheim) who she's worked with who hasn't wronged her, didn't know how talented she was/how incompetent they were; etc. When "War Paint" closes/flops, wonder if she'll turn on Christine Ebersole. Was kind of shocked that she actually made it seem like her and Glenn are okay. Then again, if anyone could cut Patti down to size, my money's on Glenn Close. What's sad to me - if she did reconcile with ALW and maybe took over for Glenn in NY for the revival, it would be the theatrical story of the year. "Patti LuPone as Norma in NY". (Although, I doubt she'd ever want to follow Close... Yeah she can out-sing Close, but acting wise, she has only one approach which is very much like her off-stage persona)

I'm slightly worried that Evita isn't going to extend and will close in Germany in July, I hope this isn't the case as I would love for the show to carry on for many more months... If it does close in Germany in July, I'll have to book flights!

Has the tour been selling well? The Upper Circle was closed and the Stalls was half empty when I saw it in Wimbledon.

I'm seeing the tour tomorrow in Wimbledon, first time ever experiencing Evita, so am rather intrigued. The only song I know is Don't Cry For Me Argentina! Mainly going out of intrigue of Emma haha. And of course, the one, the only, Dame Patti LuPone singing my favourite song from the whole score as only Patti can (check out the hair flick at the beginning). Seriously people. Do not mess with this woman.: Can totally imagine Ivanka Trump this as Donald leers on in the background! EVITA is his favourite musical.

God give me Madonna anytime over Patti. I actually prefer the movie to the stage show, it just fleshes out the story more

An Idina style approximation of the tune? a bit of control rather than forced arrogance would have made it so much more satisfying.

I think the thing with this musical and me, its not the kind of show I'd go back to see. I enjoyed it a lot when I saw it, I liked the score and Emma was great, but I think the leading lady would be the draw for me rather than the show itself.

Also, someone recently was chatting to me and called Evita underrated. I just had to disagree, if anything, I think it is a bit overrated!

It is indeed just a question of taste. Evita does seem to find new audiences as it ages so it's appealing to new people on some level. Will Wicked be running after 40 years? Seems unlikely just given the nature of the production, unless some hideous low budget version was rolled out to tour every couple of years.

Cue Glinda lowered on a coathanger while someone blows bubbles next to her. Elphaba holding her anorak up behind her 'a la schoolboys running around the playground pretending to fly' in DG.

In London, no it won't be running in 40 years I wouldn't imagine (although I'm pretty sure we will be a revival or two down the line then haha), but I think Hamilton nearby will see a small boost, and the film will have a Les Mis film style boost. The 10th Anniversary has had a positive effect on their box office too after a bit of a lull the year or two prior, it isn't going anywhere for a while yet. The same cannot be said for the Broadway production, which still sells out most performances and is, pretty much every week, in the Top 5 highest grossing shows on Broadway, making between 1 and 2 million a week. It definitely will close in London before it closes in New York.
But I agree, Evita is finding more audiences as it has aged and we will no doubt see another major revival of the show, probably in the next few years. When was the last West End revival of Evita, if we don't include the touring production that went into the Dominion?

Oh yes! And wasn't that the production that transferred to Broadway? I didn't see it, but I heard some really weren't a fan of the woman playing Eva, and wasn't it a success on Broadway mainly because of Ricky Martin?

Yeah i found the Adelphi production a massive disappointment. Basic direction, hammy acting (especially from Philip Quast as Peron), the static set while pretty didnt help make the production come alive. The Kenwright production is an improvement
