Great cast - what are the chances of this transferring to the Barbican?

Great cast - what are the chances of this transferring to the Barbican? Just a guess but I'd say high - I imagine Rupert Goold would have made it a condition and I don't think some of those actors would have signed on without a London transfer (or alternatively a USA run of course).

I am intrigued as to how different this will be to his production at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton twenty years ago.

I like Luke Thallon a lot, but wasn't planning on travelling to Stratford to see this. Now that the rest of the cast is announced though I think I may make a trip

Definitely coming to London, with also a New York run optioned to try and launch Luke more over there.
That might be Tammy Faye success dependent, but the RSC name should secure it despite Goold‘s flop rate over there.

Already booked on the strength of Luke Thallon, but this is a great cast. Can’t wait, and I’ve booked it as a double bill with Edward II, so even better.

So why is Goold directing this in the RSC and not the Almeida?

So why is Goold directing this in the RSC and not the Almeida? Goold has been doing a few non Almeida shows in the last few years so it's not that unusual.

I noticed R. Frecknall is back on the team sheet (twice) for the coming season. Some new folks, as well.

So why is Goold directing this in the RSC and not the Almeida? Maybe this production was part of his pitch for the NT job - Shakespeare on a grand scale - and he took it to the RSC after failing to secure that?

I’ve got really high hopes for this. The cast looks fantastic. I’ve got tickets for the performance with a pre-show director’s talk. I’ve managed to catch a few pre-show director talks and post-show cast talks at the RSC and really recommend them!

So why is Goold directing this in the RSC and not the Almeida? I think probably because the Robert Icke production was only in 2017 so it didn't make sense for the Almeida to programme it again so soon.

If you are pitching for the NT job it would be extremely foolish to mention Hamlet - that's exactly the type of thing they don't want. Odd to remember that there were a few years when Goold was by far the most exciting and lauded director of Shakespeare there was, he had some sensational productions - his Tempest & Macbeth were the best I've ever seen - but then he interested himself in other things and when he returned with Richard III it was very pedestrian and boring.

Wish is a surprise was he didn’t move on the vacancy of RST AD.

Sorry for a short off topic, thought it’s no biggie to create a separate discussion. Seeing this in early March, does anyone know what happened to direct trains to Stratford Upon Avon? Ten years I haven't been but I’m pretty sure I didn’t change..
