I hope so! It's one of the two major Sondheims I haven't seen on stage (the other being Sunday).
Along with Sweeney Todd it is sometimes done in opera houses. Maybe ENO or ROH?

Bizarrely I've had A Weekend in the Country stuck in my head all day despite not having listened to it in months! Spooky.
I think that Laura Pitt-Pulford has played Petra a couple of times in concert versions, I'd love to see her in a full scale production.

I think she was in the Alex Parker concert version in Guildford a number of years back. If my memory serves me right I think there was a v v young Langford/Strallen in it as the young girl.

She can't really sing (as shown in Sweet Charity) but nor could Judi Dench and she's definitive, so I'd throw Anne Marie Duff's name into the ring.

No to both of those suggestions.

Could Dame Judi play Madame Armfeldt? Would be a great, possibly final, role for her.

What about Bonnie Langford? She did, but that's why I thought this could work as its a show she already knows somewhat, can be in a wheelchair and (from memory) doesn't have loads of scenes/lines and could learn the songs audibly. Plus would be a nice link to when she did it at the national. If she could be tempted back to any role now, it just seems like this could be the one

We still need Toni Collette to be Desiree somewhere in the world.

ALNM is one of those shows which is often cast with older-than-written performers. Much as I love JD, I thought she was miscast in the National production, and that they went way overboard with the set in the Olivier, especially in Act 1. WYP and Opera North did a super production last year in Leeds (I believe a revival of a covid hit production from earlier).
That said, I agree that JD would make an interesting Madame Armfeldt.
The Sondheim at 80 prom at the Albert Hall has a wonderful "Weekend" performance. YouTube available.
Also in age related miscasts, check out the skit from the National where JD does "16 Going 17" from SoM if you have not already seen it - superb!

Regents Park would be a gorgeous setting for this!
Talking of Madame Armfeldt, it’s a shame it’s a role that Julia Mackenzie never got to play, I reckon she’d have been stunning in it.

Diana Rigg would have been a great Madame Armfeldt too. She was about the best thing in the movie version
Michelle Dockery as a possible Desiree?
Regents Park would be a great setting for. Or if they can get big names, the ENO or Palladium summer shows.

Haydn Gwynne would have wonderful in this but sadly not to be.
I don't know whether it would appeal to her, but Pippa Nixon would act the hell out of Desiree

Someone I have never seen perform on stage, she has been on stage in years - but could well imaging being a wonderful Madame Armfeldt and that is Maria Friedman.

Saw her in first London production of Passion. Although she was very impressive, I couldn't make the piece work for me despite seeing it twice.
Also the excellent in Sunday in Park

I am a huge Sondheim fan, but Passion is the exception. Three different productions and I cannot find my way into it - I just dislike the characters so much. MF is usually fantastic though.

I have seen Maria Friedman twice in concert/cabaret. Both times I left at the interval. Also I didn't like her in the Sondheim gala as Mrs Lovett.
On the other hand, her direction in Merrily we roll along (London) was amazing.
Maybe she could direct?
