Gatsby (ART production) - West End 2024/25

This could absolutely do a decent stint in a West End house, the book may not be as engrained into our culture as it is in the US but between it, the DiCaprio film, and Florence Welch there's plenty of name recognition - I think this makes a lot of sense for them considering the rival Gatsby is doing decent business on Broadway currently.

I think that’s the other Greet Gatsby musical which is currently playing on Broadway - the Florence Welch one (the subject of this thread) doesn’t have a cast recording yet. The move of the book into public domain sparked a bit of a race between two different shows based on the same book - a bit like The Wild Party a few years back…

The A.R.T. version is vastly superior to the Broadway one, in pretty much every single way. The West End would be lucky to get this one but just pray Solea Pfeiffer comes over with it, if it happens.

I really can't see how this could be a big success in the UK launched straight into a West End house in an open ended run based on the title and the plot. In a world where all they want is jukebox, the old guard and 'celebs.'

I have absolutely no idea how big a deal Florence is though so perhaps it could based on her (she's not in my sphere of knowledge but appreciate perhaps she's massive).

Agree with others that National, Barbican or similar, limited initial run would be the way to go.

Hopefully there will be a cast recording so can actually judge for myself!

Never mind, the Broadway Gatsby has secured a London theatre already...

I think Eva and Jeremy carried the Broadway production and created a lot of hype for it. I can see it flopping here. I’m really not interested in seeing it at all. Really only want to see the ART production, disappointing that we’ll be getting the B’way one.

Either shows a complete lack of awareness... or faith that the material will perform well in the West End??

They're going to have to do one hell of a stunt cast here to keep this flopping. Wonder what West End critics make of it though. But Broadway audiences seem to like it most likely because of that stunt cast.
