What about all those pickpockets! while annoying is not murder Woa. London isn't THAT dangerous!! I live in London but was brought up in lovely quiet sunny Southport. Today one feels safer than the other. It's down to perception isn't it?

I find this site very disturbing in the sense that surely any one could work out the advice given for themselves although observations might regrettably suggest otherwise.

What about all those pickpockets! while annoying is not murder There are around 9 million people in London. Last year there were 150 murders in London. Murder Map - LondonSo, if you live in London for a year, your chance of being murdered is 1 in 60000. But I suspect a significant number of murders were gang related. So if you come for a short visit and you're not involved in gangs then I think you're probably going to be OK. Oh and New York's murder rate is a surprisingly small 489 - although the whole of England and Wales had a comparable 590. And for Chichester the figure is an unsurprising 0.

Everyone knows that.

There are loads of videos on youtube about how to get to places etc. Watch these so that you can move with confidence through the airport and stations, and for the most cost effective way of doing things. Its all well and good arriving at your hotel in a $120 cab like something from a romcom, but getting the train to Jamaica then the subway to your hotel for $25 feels even better, believe me!

I've lived in both. Both are fine. London is much safer than New York, but New York is still generally fine if you have some street smarts.
