I'm visualising an intimate, immersive production staged on one of those old pleasure cruisers that goes up and down the Thames... OMG if Cameron is reading this he'll probably nick my idea!

This production was simply one of the best I have seen for a while! Fabulously staged, sung and very moving. I had not been to the Crucible in Sheffield before but was struck by how similar the auditorium was to the Chichester Festival Theatre. The Artistic Director, Daniel Evans is moving to Chichester of course so he will feel very much at home in that space. The Chichester musicals are in very safe hands if this production is anything to go by! He should revive it at Chichester and then take it into town.

I'm just saying, they could do a lot worse than leaping on the New London once Joey's trotted off for the last time...

I imagine this would be a nice fit in the New London, whenI saw this in Sheffield it looked designed for a longer life, albeit on tour or the West End, the design is quite similar to Anything Goes from a certain perspective.
If a transfer did happen it would be minus a David Thaxton, who would be the other side of Covent Garden in the ENO's Sunset Boulevard.
But good news, but not surprised by this.

FABULOUS news! One of the best shows I have seen for a while! I will certainly see it again. A great fit for the New London Theatre too. Pity it will lose Michael Xavier though who was in fine voice. Let the casting speculation begin....it will give another actor a shot though! Hopefully the rest of the cast will transfer - they were all splendid.

We need ShowBoat to transfer to London...a glorious production and a transfer for around Easter would be amazing....
I think Bradley Jaden would a great Gaylord Ravenel, or Hadley Frasier? Tam Mutu would also be an excellent choice.

Think there is no doubt this would transfer and it's a virtually done deal.
Showboat is a show title that will always sell. Just like Hammerstein and Rodgers or Lerner and Lowe.
Great for Sheffield Theatres as they were unlucky with My Fair Lady which was glorious and I hear the Me and My Girl they did was great.

Does anyone have any more information about Showboat transferring to the New London Theater? Bad had said perhaps April of this year but is anything concrete yet? And do we know when in April this would start?
Any help would be amazing!
Cheers,
ST

The current thread has a small discussion of the New London transfer from when Baz broke the news. Might not answer any questions but worth a look and that way we can keep all Show Boat-related discussion in the same place! No doubt a kind in-the-know member of the board will post something if they find out anything! theatreboard.co.uk/thread/122/show-boat

Any more news of timing for the West End transfer of Showboat? Bad had said April but doesn't anyone have any more information on dates?

All I know is that casting has been taking place over the past few days. I think there's either no dates confirmed yet, or they're confirmed but just not been announced - I don't think anyone is hiding anything, if someone knew they would say! Best to wait until something is announced or a member in-the-know gets wind, I'm sure they'll tell us if/when they can. See Tickets have uploaded a trailer today (featuring lovely new art-work for the run!) confirming a strictly limited run at the New London but unfortunately no dates mentioned. Might been an announcement is imminent though, and we do have Baz coming up on twitter later tonight as per!
