Well, interval thoughts, its a beautiful show! The set, costumes, overall design really is gorgeous! When those wooden panels raised at the beginning, the set actually took my breath away. The performances are great all around, its a pretty phenomenal cast. Gina and Chris are such a great pairing together!it is a great balance of comedy and drama, it is defiantly alot deeper but also more comedic when I expected. I am so, so glad I chose spur of the moment to see this and went in with no knowledge!  Audience is about 80% full in the stalls I'd say, the ends of the balcony I can see are empty bar a couple of people. It was funny, once the lights went down, you just saw all the people at the far ends of the stalls near the wall of the stage move more central, almost like a wave! Thanks. Is the understudy announced pre show or did you look on the board?
They had the Understudy list on paper behind one of the merch stands. The show was beautiful, shed a tear (or ten!) during the second half, I wonder if we all cry at the same moments, I cried twice haha! And I know alot of people don't like the return of a character at the end but I thought it was beautifully done! The only thing I didn't like was the scene in the Saloon with the men talking in the audience. Way too distracting, I was sat in the central stalls and even I was annoyed by it! I understand the reasoning but still. 95% standing ovation at the end, and truly deserved. I hope I can return before it closes and I hope it is not forgotten by Oliviers time, which I fear it may unless it turns into the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers of this year. It definitely deserves Revival and the two leading roles. If I had the vote, I'd also throw a bone to at least three of the Supporting Actors too, but I very much doubt it will get that many! A great night all round. |

Usually I do some looking into every show before I see it, this was one of the first times I didn't and I loved it! |

Ol' Man River is a "Wow" moment for vocal merit alone (like Titanic currently).
Had a smile on my face all the way so far. Bit worried about the "hanky" talk for Act II.

Fantastic show. I loved the view from the side. First time I've ever seen faces properly in a west end show and what a difference it makes. You feel much closer to what is going on .
Biggest applause of the afternoon was for Sandra and Tosh (Joe and Quennie)id say. 85% full in the stalls 50% in the balcony.

What was the age range of audience members when you all went to see the show? Last night, even though it was a mostly elderly crowd, I was surprised how responsive they were! At the top of the show, when each character is introduced by Magnolia's father, each of them got individual applause, the audience were wooping and cheering through a lot of it, it was great!

Well that was a brilliant night out. Amazing that a musical written nearly 90 years ago can still entertain. Such an excellent cast.
Also kinda special to a see a show that played a part in the development of the art form that is most important to me.

Id say average age was about 50. Quite a lot of cheering especially after the first old Man river. About half stood up ( I didn't but I don't like standing up in one place for long).

Saw this last night and rather than being a 5 star show for me it was a show with a several 5 star moments. I especially enjoyed Ol Man River and Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man. Some excellent performances made it a worthwhile theatre trip. I loved the 4D effect sitting in row A of the stalls as well.

Saw this today at the matinee. I'd only seen the (second) film before. Always liked the score but I enjoyed this a lot more than the film. The understudy for Joe was on and he was an absolute highlight, as were Gina and Rebecca. I thought Chris had a great voice but his acting was a bit flat. You can tell it was written almost 100 years ago and that what must have been a landmark then seems slightly stale and simplified today, but this production absolutely does its best to get you on board. Loved the transition with all of the news stories as well. 4*
Also I know it's none of my business but if I were Gina I'd go for the blonde hair permanently, really suits her.

Took a return trip to Show Boat today as I heard the second understudy for Joe was on, what a talented cast! Got to schedule a few more trips in over the next two months.

Some ongoing problem, I believe. Very sad. The first cover had a wedding to attend yesterday hence the second cover being on.
