Huge amount of fuss about very little. Of course a cancelled early preview is frustrating for people who had booked tickets, but it's a pretty unremarkable event in the history of theatre. And theatre doesn't owe anything other than a refund. (Yes it's nice when theatres go above and beyond but you aren't entitled to this). As for the e-mail thing - yeah, unfortunate. But honestly, worse things happen at sea..... LOL re the 1 star Phantoms being back. Camp! You honestly need to ignore any 1 star ratings on TB in the first week of a show and not include them in appraisal of the stars spectrum! Very much the #axetogrind set. I agree. It’s annoying. Disappointing. But what are they supposed to do when the show is basically all sold out? I wouldn’t worry- it’s transferring anyway. Can you say where to at this stage Mr B?

It happens with every poll on here. I've learnt to now ignore the one stars completely as the people who give 1 star never give any feedback as to their reasons so it's just a form of trolling really. Oh yeah, like Starlight Express that has a grand total of 9 one star reviews, 6 of these were awarded on the first performance.

Doesn't sound good at all.
Talking of oversharing, last night David Babani did say that Joanna Woodward had norovirus (which I wouldn't want to be shared publically like that -- really nasty bug), so cast illness might be an issue if there's something going around.
Maybe there's also some work being done; I suspect it's the lights at the back which were constantly burning out throughout the performance and some were replaced in the interval yet were burning out again. Feels like that has to be a major health and safety issue, right? More people in the cast have come down ill. Some bulbs blowing do not cancel a show 🤣 V good to know. Hopefully they'll be alright and get better soon.
When I was doing sound for a youth am dram Cabaret, they were basically ripping off the Mendes staging but midway through the opening number, two bulbs on the billboard that hung above exploded sending shattered glass onto some girl's head. Ended up being nothing serious but it ended their 2 week run on the third night! Must sound silly but after that I had the light that hangs above my bed gutted out
In this they're climbing all over it and jumping on it and such so I can imagine someone would be quite worried at the frequency at which they were going yesterday. Every 5 mins a row of bulbs were burning or going out. Surely theatre people would know about the power going through those

Read it again Mrs Reactionary… You are deluded. No one gets extra days off when a show is cancelled. Cant believe I’m having to spell this out. Look at the performance schedule - leaving only one day off a week and tell me how they are supposed to magic up an extra date? I’ll wait. What are they up to today oh mighty one?

In terms of adding shows, making the cast working on their day off is not going to happen, they’re not robots.
Having said that, I wonder if there is a possibility to add a performance or two during Christmas week.

They’ve haven’t announced their next show, so could add an extra week. I am seeing this tomorrow, I am starting to get nervous. Well, hey! I'm there tomorrow too (Theatre Gods willing). I think we met once previously, at the Menier! If you spot me say hello (I'm driving to Grantham, training into London, staying overnight - so I'm gonna be fed up if it's cancelled) ...

But with me obviously not being as close enough to the beating heart of theatreland (what an uneducated dolt eh?) it can’t possibly be possible. 🤷♂️

Dust everywhere & bits of rubbish. Sounds like those of us who booked the first preview were lucky.

Enjoyed the First Preview on Tuesday, The cast are excellent, The choreography is very strong and while they need time for the comedy to land with audiences, its hilarious. The band sounds so much fuller than other Menier Musicals even though there is only 10 of them.
Andy Nyman And Marc Antolin work so well together, did not realize Marc could dance so well! And agreed with the comments on Chloe Saunders as Ulla who was brilliant.
But that set it is pretty poor. The Billboard at the back of the stage works and the changing signs at the side of the stage are a nice idea. I guess the vibes of the side set bits where the Band are above is for "Period Bad Theatre Set", but it just comes off as Am Dram and cheap. Not to mention a Chaise Lounge that seemed to be on stage in the way for a lot of Act 1 even when not needed, (But that could easily change with previews).
It just comes off as Cheap Cheap as they don't go all the way with the concept and if/when they transfer will probably need rethinking, as they clearly have spent there money on the huge amount of costumes they use.
However the Direction/Cast are strong, I just Wish you could see your Ticket Money used for the set.
