Just had email. Cancelled this evening. Trying to fob of with a credit note. No mention of being able to rebook at preview price. V shoddy behaviour on their part. They also sent email revealing everyone email address that they sent it to! And just been phoned up confirming cancellation. Worst customer service had from a theatre. They will send a refund. No offer of alternative performance. Point blank refused to honour preview price. If I do spot a return, I have to now pay the going rate. Difference of £30 on both tkts. Livid is a understatement!

Doesn't sound good at all.
Talking of oversharing, last night David Babani did say that Joanna Woodward had norovirus (which I wouldn't want to be shared publically like that -- really nasty bug), so cast illness might be an issue if there's something going around.
Maybe there's also some work being done; I suspect it's the lights at the back which were constantly burning out throughout the performance and some were replaced in the interval yet were burning out again. Feels like that has to be a major health and safety issue, right?

I see the 1* have started. I hope not because of the cancellation.
Ratings are for when you've actually SEEN the show, dearies.
Edit: And now it's gone

What does a building site mean? Is the building under construction/renovation? The old foyer space is LITERALLY a building site - like there was scaffolding up when I went to the Cabinet Minister, and you get taken in through a fire exit down the side currently to the bar area... When Max Ballystock warbles ‘the showgirls with the biggest tits and the best bathrooms’ he wasn’t referring to the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Edit: And now it's gone Still seems to be a one star review? Puzzling as all comments have been positive. So agree, I hope it is not due to tonight's show being cancelled that would be very unfair.

Nope not unfair. When reviewing a show, it entails the whole experience. It's the theatres own production, so they should expect to criticised when they have such contempt for audiences that have paid to see the show in the expectations that they would see it.

Apart from anything else - even following the line of your argument- it is not the whole experience, if someone is leaving a one star before they have seen the show. If a show has to be cancelled and the run is sold out, I don't know what else a theatre can do, but offer a refund.

They can put on another performance on a dark day. If its down to cast illness people will be having extra days off as a result anyway. If its down to under rehearsal, the production needs to suck it up, pay for more rehearsal time and find some extra dates.

Surely people book previews knowing there's a chance they might be cancelled, delayed starting, pulled halfway through etc.?

It's how the venue have managed it that people are complaining about. The first post says it's shoddy behaviour, but that's just an opinion. People are speculating that the One-star review is for the cancellation, in which case, my point stands.

What exactly are they doing at the Menier site for there to be so much construction? When I went past the whole building is covered in scaffolding and there's info about turning it into office space (I think) so I assumed the owners of the building are renovating the whole lot - the theatre is just the ground floor and below and leased?? I also assume the office renovation wont affect the theatre? Lots of assumptions on my part.....

Personally when I look at a TB poll for a show, I expect that to be a rating of what people thought of the production. I find it useful info when I'm deciding what shows to book. Aside from the unfairness to the show, if the ratings is just a criticism of complaints people may have, that's much less helpful.
Currently there are three one star reviews for the show. So half the poll is negative, yet all the comments from people who have actually seen the show are positive.

It happens with every poll on here. I've learnt to now ignore the one stars completely as the people who give 1 star never give any feedback as to their reasons so it's just a form of trolling really.

Huge amount of fuss about very little. Of course a cancelled early preview is frustrating for people who had booked tickets, but it's a pretty unremarkable event in the history of theatre. And theatre doesn't owe anything other than a refund. (Yes it's nice when theatres go above and beyond but you aren't entitled to this).
As for the e-mail thing - yeah, unfortunate. But honestly, worse things happen at sea.....
LOL re the 1 star Phantoms being back. Camp! You honestly need to ignore any 1 star ratings on TB in the first week of a show and not include them in appraisal of the stars spectrum! Very much the #axetogrind set.

Cant believe I’m having to spell this out. Look at the performance schedule - leaving only one day off a week and tell me how they are supposed to magic up an extra date? I’ll wait.

Disappointing. But what are they supposed to do when the show is basically all sold out? I wouldn’t worry- it’s transferring anyway.
