Well this gets an easy 5* from me. I was captivated from start to finish, both by the content and the performances, especially Nana Mensah, who I hope I get to see on stage again sometime and Adrien Brody, who spoke as if he was talking to all of us in the audience individually. Plus, seeing Brody in such an intimate setting is something I won't forget in a hurry.

Received email from Donmar saying Adrien Brody won't be performing on 15 and 16 November. I know these things happen, but bit annoyed as he was the main reason I booked for this. Is it still worth seeing without him? Decided to go in the end. Couldn't fault the understudy Matt McClure's performance - though equally I did spend bits of it imagining Brody playing it. Fairly full house, a few people unaware Brody wasn't on - I saw one couple leave after 15 minutes, off to complain. I thought it was good - the second third, when the story and relationships really developed, was superb. But the beginning is too long, and the end is long-winded. Pleased to have seen it, but even if someone now offered me a ticket to see it with Brody, I'm not sure I'd take up the offer.

Is it still worth seeing without him? I checked that he’s at LA now for the Governors Awards (it’s still Sunday here in the US), in which they will give the Honorary Oscar to Quincy Jones, who passed away recently. Adrien is also campaigning for his film, The Brutalist, which won the Silver Lion at Venice and is also tipped to be a frontrunner for the Oscars. The Governors Awards used to be given during the actual Oscars ceremony, but these days it’s a separate event. A lot of other actors are present in this event, as means to campaign for their films.

Really shows the BS attitude of actors tbh If you are going to appear in a run of a show Appear What a joke Anne Bancroft missed accepting her actual Oscar due to being in a play on the good old days

Not really for me. Louis Theroux does US death row stories in ways as interesting. Enjoyed the cast and presentation. Felt like I'd heard/seen versions of the story many-fold. No vote.
