Paul Merson will leave early. American Smooth to Vindaloo won't help!

I rather enjoyed it. The judges could have been given the night off. Nice in memoriam at the end. Has Ellie Leach done anything since winning? She needs to get a new agent. Ellie appeared in the tour of Cluedo 2 and was part of a reality show called Drama Queens (featuring several soap stars). She deserves better. The launch show was ok, too long as usual. Feels like there is an elephant in the room with all of the issues/allegations not being mentioned or addressed but didn’t expect it to be really.

I’m looking forward to seeing Shayne Ward hopefully going the distance. Paul Merson will leave early. Will miss seeing Kai with a partner this year but lovely to see Neil with one. If all the Arsenal fans get behind Paul like they did Tony then he will be in for a long time. Wynne, the dr, Chris, Nick will be the first 4 out.

Wynne is a natural performer. I think he will last a while longer.

Let’s stay away from the matter of cosmetic surgery please. Even if people are open about it it’s just safer not to get into it.

I have been away for a week- I only got back late yesterday afternoon- so haven't had a chance to catch up on the launch show. I did however watch the group dance on Twitter and if that's anything to go by, I think Shane (The X Factor guy) is the one to watch.

I truly can't see how Paul Merson can dance an American Smooth to Vindaloo, even slowed down.

So normally they have the launch show, possibly introduce some new pro-dancers, pair up the celebrities and then give them some- usually about three weeks- before the first show.
Am I correct in saying this is not the case this year? Cause the first show is this Saturday at 7pm, right?

The first live is this week. I think the launch show was filmed a little earlier in the process than some years so they will have had the same training time

I bet a few people will end up missing it, it's been a 2 week gap between launch and week 1 for decades

I bet a few people will end up missing it, it's been a 2 week gap between launch and week 1 for decades Thank God for i-Player! I missed the launch show and via the i-Player is the only way I will be able to catch up. It also means that we'll all not be 'glued' to the TV set on a Saturday night, each and every week for fear of missing it.

I think they dropped the gap between the launch and the first live show a couple of years ago.
I'll be whizzing through the first live show on iplayer, it's on for 2 hours and 25 minutes, I know there's a lot of couples but that's just too long!!

2 years ago the Queen died and the launch show was delayed by a week and the first live followed the next week

I don’t know if it’s the first year they’ve done it but I notice that they’ve taken the lights off the judges during the dances so we don’t have to ensure that ridiculous grandstanding where the middle two stand up and pretend to peer closely at the footwork. Bruno started it and Shirley and Motsi adopted it. Blatant attention seeking.
My best pal is severely sight impaired and is the most impressively able person in every other way that I’ve ever known. So knowing the challenges he faces the idea of learning a dance and performing it without being able to see it properly is, for me, mind blowing. That’s not to take away from any of the other celebs we’ve seen compete with disabilities, they’re all amazing, but my oh my.

I must admit, I was curious about how logistically how it was going to work, clearly between them (and I'm sure with a little guidance) they've made it work.
Whilst I don't believe for a second that he's going to win (and I don't think he believes that either), it will be interesting to see how far he can go into the competition and what routines will be delivered.

Why was Motsi shouting all the time?! She has a mic, there’s no need.
Claudia’s outfit was clearly inspired by Princess Leia.

At this point Claudia is clearly pranking us with the outfits.

The judges kept interrupting each other tonight which was annoying. Odd scoring but lets see how it settles. Claudia's outfit.....

Sarah and Vito were great. Clearly Stevie should be working 9 to 5 here rather than the joke shop

Finger snapping in front of another judge’s (Craig’s) face as you interrupt them is incredibly rude. SO rude! When did Craig’s POV become irrelevant? Rude! Only just catching up on ffwd (the only way to watch!). Amy & JB were good, if Pete Wicks hadn’t been so floppy he’d have been better, needed technique alongside his quite good movements. Sarah smashed it, obvs and begrudgingly I’ll admit that Shane has the right energy, but I think Sam Queck was my fave. She showed great performance skills for a sportsperson. Promising.

Amy was great but I don't think JB danced with any fluidity or grace. The rise and fall was very forced.
Sarah will go a long way if she can replicate that sort of flair each week.
Montel was my favourite of the night. She oozed elegance, really had the performance skills. She had real ease on the floor. Johannes deserves a series win.
I feel for Neil. Years of waiting for another partner. And he gets the puppy like enthusiasm of Toyah. I don't think there is time to calm her down enough to develop the discipline necessary to avoid the dance off and likely elimination

A great opener, I really like a mixed bag.
I expect Toyah will be first out, she was tied for the worst dancer with Paul for me.
