In terms of replacement? Rachel O'Riordan or Lynette Linton would be good.

He's done a good job; it's a tricky theatre to fill in many ways, big and unforgiving. It needs a versatile director who has a sense of showmanship.

I agree, he has done a brilliant job with a string of great productions. Whoever takes over will have big shoes to fill.
So I wonder if that means either this Christmas or next year’s (if it gets announced again) will be the last run of A Christmas Carol? Would a new AD want to continue it or would it need to find a new home?

Id be surprised if the Old Vic would want to get rid of it, it seems to be a guaranteed commercial success for them, why try to get an alternative which may not be over the xmas period? |

A Christmas Carol is like The Old Vic's panto, a moneymaker that funds the following year.
I assume Matthew Warchus will go back to being a freelance director rather than run another theatre.
Although I have made my suggestions for the replacement AD, it would be interesting to see a producer take over as AD rather than a director or actor.

He's convinced Rami Malek to make his UK stage debut - I'd say that's a pretty big endowment for now (but there will undoubtedly be more) |

He has done a good job and the Old Vic were lucky to get him as they announced his appointment and then withdrew it when Spacey became available around 2003 so he waited 12 years before he actually got the job.
