Putting the brakes on the pilfering and reckless harm done to the country by the current administration will be a start. So much of the damage has been at a structural level and fixing it won't lead to visible results any time soon, and I think most sensible people understand that. Of course there will be people campaigning that their cause is prioritised, and I those who aren't fans of Starmer (Tories and parts of the Labour party alike) that have resigned themselves to the likely result are already trying to create an environment whereby not fixing things in the first few months will be seen as a failure. But whether or not people voting Labour are realistic about the timeline for change, they will have time before the next general election. I fully expect things to stay fairly rubbish for a while. A big part of the problem with the doctors strikes has been the current government's unwillingness to get around the table. It seems they are deliberately misrepresenting concerns and goading NHS staff into striking so they can complain about the unions and staff in tv interviews. I don't think issues around staff and pay in the NHS will be resolved any time soon - if ever. And that's only one of many things in the NHS that needs attention. But I am hopeful that further strikes can be avoided for the time-being if the government of the day shows willingness to listen, commit to some interim improvements while acknowledging it's not the 'final offer' and isn't trying to use negotiations to undermine the whole ethos of the NHS. I do think things will get better, but human nature being what it is, a lot of people are going to be underwhelmed. Arguably that will be their fault for being unrealistic about what's needed and what's possible and the scale of the harm that's been done by the current lot. There will be some things that can be implemented quickly, but the next administration should focus on the structural issues that take longer to bear fruit. It will be interesting to see the balance and which special interest/lobby groups have the most influence. |

Got a personal letter from ANN WIDDECOMBE in the post. Says "I am writing to ask you - nay to urge you - to vote for Reform UK". Last paragraph "Be brave! Vote confidently for what you want. Change is there for the taking with Reform now only a single point behind the Conservatives in the polls". And gives me her best wishes .....
This makes number 7 leaflet through the door from Reform UK. 2 for the incumbent Conservative, 1 for LibDem, 1 for Labour arrived yesterday, 1 for English Democrats (full of "illegal's in boats"). I think Richard Tice / Reform UK is going to win from the local social media I've seen.

If leaflets are anything to go by, Lib-Dems have won hands down in my constituency (not that they have ever come close to winning). At least four leaflets a week, if not more. Haven't seen a single candidate from any party knocking on doors, though, and apparently we have eight standing!

I haven't had a single leaflet from any of the candidates and haven't seen anyone out and about or coming to my door.
Too late now as I had a postal vote and already done and sent back.

In Weston-super-Mare Royal Mail has announced regular postal service will be severely disrupted due to lack of staff.
It hasn't affected the delivery of election leaflets though.
My partner said the LibDem-candidate knocked, but wasn't very engaging.
Someone I know confronted the Tory-candidate about certain issues, who just blamed it all on the opposition. (Weston-super-Mare is a Tory-seat)
ReformUK posted 'Sorry you weren't home when we knocked' - that's because 75% of people in this block of flats are immigrants (or 2nd generation) and we were all at work.
My home base is Liverpool, so it won't be Tories there.
I wonder what Jason in Swindon will vote - he became famous for telling Sky News he can't get a job because immigrants take them all. It then turned out he had been in prison, for assault as he put it - it was for the worst kind of assault on minors, twice.

I live in what was previously a fairly safe Tory seat in Wales but under the circumstances is a possibility for Labour.
Final tally of leaflets: 6 Labour, 1 Tory, 1 Green, 1 LibDem, 1 Plaid, 1 Reform, 1 True & Fair, 1 Independent.
Three visits from Labour, no sign of anyone else. Lots of Labour posters in windows but I've only seen Tory posters on farms in the countryside.
If this were an English seat, it would be a shoo-in for Labour on the current polls but the current Labour leadership in the Senedd isn't helping their case.

Election leaflets are absolute priority as part of the democratic process. Unclear why there would be a problem with postal votes this far down the road, and assume it's a fake story. RE Staff: lack of a decent contract offer is the issue. Compulsory weekend working for new recruits, who are also on part-time contracts. Previously a decent job for mums who could work around school hours. Now leaving for the delights of Universal Credit. Problems across the country, often severe. This is a legacy of the previous CEO who effectively worked for the Czech billionaire who wants to take over the business - they drove down the share price from 600p to 200p (now 300p) by creating confrontations with the workers/union and adopting practices that undermined performance. Privatised by the Coalition, asset stripped and undermined by successive managements = value halved and suitable for a foreign billionaire looking to balance currency exposure. At least it’s not a water company without sewerage facilities or a train company without ticket offices. |

In my seat of Bexleyheath and Crayford I have had 4x Labour Party, 2x Conservative Party and 2x Racist Reform Party. |

It's neck and neck between Tories and Lib Dem where I am, so despite always voting Labour, I'm voting Lib Dem to oust the Tory and I hope a lot of people will do the same. Yes it's an awful system, yes we should be able to just vote for who we believe in, but this is genuinely the first election ever where I actually feel like my vote will make a difference.

Yes it's an awful system, yes we should be able to just vote for who we believe in, but this is genuinely the first election ever where I actually feel like my vote will make a difference. Being a life long Labour voter and member, I would do the same thing and vote tactically. Just out of interest what is your constituency. in fairness some very good Conservative MPs are going to lose their seats and unfortunately Suella Braverman, Priti Patel, Liz Truss and Kemi Badernoch are forcast to hold on. |

If it's any consolation your tactical vote is for a party that wants to change the voting system to something that means you'll be able to vote for your first choice. I am hoping for a food few Portillo moments in the wee small hours, but alas quality of the individual won't play much of a part in deciding who stays or goes, but rather who managed to bag the very safest seats. Thoughts and prayers to all of the Tory MPs who thought they'd switch to a safe seat only to discover it isn't. Happy Dogs at Polling Station Day. |

Just voted Lib Dem to get rid of the Tory, very busy, staff at the polling station said so far it's the biggest turn out they'd ever seen. Never felt this happy on election day before.

No queue, no dogs, no issues. I'm in a marginal and Labour were door knocking to get non-voters out by noon. A bit odd as I finally got election literature today, one leaflet and two posted - all Labour and all arrived after I had already voted.
