Better get myself some ID then I suppose.
Also, am suddenly inundated with videos and tweets from Kier Starmer. Going to be a long few weeks…

Looks like Rishi has had enough. Why else would he put himself out of a job 6 months before he needs to.
I wonder if an election can be called on any date say outside of Xmas week or there is some agreement it won't be held during Conference weeks?

I'll be able to celebrate the day after the results as I'm going to the first night of Hello Dolly.

Might be a smarter move for Sunak than it looks: the Tories will lose, but the current Gaza situation may reduce Labour's vote & majority with the students and in Muslim areas, who will likely vote Green or maybe even the Galloway faction. The behaviour of some on the weekend London demos also alienates some 'middle ground' voters who may be prompted by that to vote Tory or Lib Dem for fear Labour still has a Momentum/Corbyn element. My social media is Left-leaning / feminist but I'm not seeing much enthusiasm for Starmer.

Starmer has the authority and stature to be seen as an election winning PM but do the die hard socialists like him. Some will stick to their principles rather than be in power with watered down more centrist policies.
George Galloway and which seats his party target will be interesting. Will Nigel Farage suddenly be front and centre again these two can certainly be disruptors to the main two parties.

The date will impact the student vote in university towns too: most of them will have gone home by the 4th July.

This is contradictory. People might avoid Labour because they're not strong enough on Gaza, but people might avoid Labour because they think they're too strong on Palestinian rights..?

How bad did Sunak think things were going to get if he's gone now. I suppose they've looked exhausted for a while, discipline has collapsed and they weren't really trying to achieve anything.
Interesting that there's been quite a few reports that Tory MPs are very unhappy about this as they expected more time to sort out their next job!

Anybody else have a hunch this'll be a hung parliament? Yes, outside of social media echo chambers I don't see much enthusiasm for either party and Labour have the trust issue on spending. What do they stand for and how will they pay for it? The only reason labour will get in is simply by not being conservatives, rather than offering something truly worthwhile. I'm not convinced it's going to be quite the landslide some expect. I can see smaller parties getting more votes. In some ways I think Rishi gets some unfair flack. Whoever took over from Boris was always going to have a poisoned chalice. The rot set in a long time ago and this will be a vote on the last decade rather than just Rishi himself. It wouldn't surprise me if Rishi can see what's coming in the world and thinks 'f*** that, I'm out of here'

Polls for a while have indicated Labour have more trust on the economy than the government and the Tories fear mongering hasn't worked so far.
Sunak still had a large majority, he's just done nothing worthwhile with it so that's on him. It's notable in his disastrous speech yesterday he brought up furlough as he has not a single useful achievement as PM.
He's also a terrible campaigner and can't hide his irritation with interviewers.
Smaller parties may do better than usual but there's not the slightest indication it will be significant.

The cynic in me thinks there's another scandal about to surface, and Sunak is fed up of trying to look sincere when he has to apologise.
