If you're interested in the actress Ellen Terry and in seeing theatre memorabilia from the 19th and early 20th century, can I recommend a visit to her house in Smallhythe, Kent. (It's close to the beautiful village of Tenterden, which is also very worth seeing.) We went there today and it's absolutely lovely and spent ages looking through all the historic theatrical items. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/kent/smallhythe-place

It was indeed a lovely day out.

I agree: went 2 years ago, ie spring 2022 (which was also pretty wet) & we had a fascinating tour of the house itself by an extremely knowledgeable guide; the small garden is also attractive and in a very peaceful, low-lying setting. Tenterden is also lovely though poorly-connected in terms of transport, which might explain why it is still relatively pleasant and unspoiled.

Would have liked to spend more time in the garden which as you say is also attractive, but sadly, wet weather limited outside time! I'll have to return in better weather.
