Am I the only one who hated this at the ENO? Pointless, good effects, dreadful choreography, 2 songs I knew and silly storyline. Just curious about the “2 songs I knew” part of that. Should there have been more?! |

I think the point of a Jukebox musical is that you know more than 2 songs!

I think the point of a Jukebox musical is that you know more than 2 songs! Well if you go to a musical called “Bat Out Of Hell the Musical” and you don’t know the 7 songs from the album “Bat Out Of Hell” you’ve only really got yourself to blame if there aren’t enough songs you know!!! |

I went in knowing only a handful of Steinman songs and had an amazing time. I didn't feel that I needed to have done any research to enjoy the show more.

Yes, the sign of a good musical is homework. No, the sign of someone making an effort to enjoy something is homework. If you’re just going to something to either just say you’ve seen it or to judge it you should be prepared to take the rough with the smooth. I have been sticking Hamilton into my day to day musical ‘routine’ to give myself the best chance of enjoying it. |

Yes, the sign of a good musical is homework. If that was aimed at me then it’s ridiculous. You don’t need to do any homework to enjoy Bat Out Of Hell, but someone saying they only knew 2 songs on a show based on an album of 7 songs (plus follow up albums and other stuff) is rather pointless. |

It’s musicalmarge who seems to think that if you go to a “jukebox” musical (which this isn’t really anyway) by a songwriter whose songs you aren’t familiar with, that it’s the shows fault when you don’t know the songs. How anyone can not know: Bat Out Of Hell Dead Ringer For Love It’s All Coming Back To Me Now I’d Do Anything For Love is beyond me anyway, so only knowing 2 songs implies someone has been sticking their head in the sand for a long time. |

I fail to see how the number of songs you know from a show before you see it could impact on your enjoyment? I only recognised three songs from Sunset Boulevard but I still came out loving it. If you go into a musical without knowing much about it, it’s your own choice. You can’t then blame your dislike for the show on the decision that you’ve made, that’s pretty absurd. Not liking the show because you don’t like the songs is one thing. Not liking the show because you don’t know them is lunacy.

If you go into a musical without knowing much about it, it’s your own choice. You can’t then blame your dislike for the show on the decision that you’ve made, that’s pretty absurd. I haven't seen the show but if I do (haven't decided yet, afraid it might be too loud for me) I think I'd expect to recognise any songs used that were on the CD but not any that weren't. |

It just sounds wasteful when you could go and see Thriller for 20p and know most of the songs! 😃 If a show is new to me, but has an existing cast recording, I will usually listen to it beforehand as I do tend to enjoy them more when I know them. But funnily enough, Sunset is also one of my “instant likes” - loved it from that very first viewing. |

All booked again.
I had hoped that the two front rows would be as cheap as they were for An American in Paris but no dice. Still, the front row for £55 is not a terrible deal considering the ludicrous prices in the rows beyond.
Gah, I can't believe I'm so excited about a jukebox musical.

I wanted Row A but chickened out when I saw they were cheaper. Not knowing what the view will be like, I didn’t want a repeat of my experience in the front row at Manchester, where the front of the set blocked half of the show!
