A touring production of calamity Jane with no 'star' in it would die on its arse and close early in the current situ, I'd bet most of my possessions on it. Carrie, whilst probably not the most logical actor for the role, makes total sense in terms of Box Office. You only have to look at how the shows she toured in did when she was in them, compared to when she wasn't. That was a while ago though in fairness, at the height of her youtube popularity and peak of Mcflys fame too. Her 3 recent London shows didn't sell and her solo tour didn't sell out all venues for one night. And I'm pretty sure the Palladium had comps. Not convinced this is the right show/star combo.

Have you seen some of the prices for this regional tour? Top price almost £70. Shows with Carrie in London rely on repeat business and there’s plenty of bargains to be had there so the ‘fans’ can make multiple visits. This isn’t going to be the case across the country. Saying the older demographic will go to see anyone is doing them a disservice. And how many times can someone of a certain age go to see Calamity Jane? If you’ve seen it, hardly a blockbuster musical you’d rush back to. That’s a lot of dates to sell. Is CHF the draw she once was? Does anyone know who she is outside of London and think ‘ooo I love her must make a special effort to travel to Sunderland to see her’? Layton Williams is an established musical star with a great CV who made the crossover to TV and is now a household name. Putting him in Cabaret is ‘clever casting’ from a bring the punters in point of view but as a triple threat he would’ve been a contender for the role anyway. I don’t really see Mrs Montague in the same league. WOS makes a very telling comment about her broad fan base. But does she have enough to sell out all of those venues? I’ll be interested to see who her leading man is. If it’s a soap or reality star they will probably be the ones to do the heavy lifting tickets wise.

Trying for mean but giving panto villain there. Isn’t Calam meant to be likeable? Calamity is a fantastic character for a good actress - likeable, energetic, charismatic, hot tempered, romantic etc. The video comes across like smug prison guard for some reason.

Running the gamut of emotions from A to B The marketing for this just gets worse. It's calamity Jane, not some sort of naff peaky blinders inspired cowboy shoot out. The tone is way off, and Carrie as usual using the 2 expressions she has

Nailed it! I was trying to put my finger on how it was coming across. Smug prison guard is the one. Mama Morton in her future?

Mama Morton is actually a role she could do quite well in. Pretty much a park and bark role with no dancing and little acting required.

The first thing I thought when I saw the photo and then the terrible promotional video was "have they flipped it and made Calamity Jane the villain?"
Because Carrie looks truly like a pantomime baddie here - the smirk is so off for the character. Is it meant to be seductive? Badass? I truly cannot understand the motivation behind using a face that would rival Machieavelli when Calamity Jane is meant to be so lovable.

This is the problem when casting someone whose acting skills are limited to two expressions: 1) smug and 2) confused that she's constipated. And please no, leave Chicago alone!

Feeling a little/very uncomfortable with all the hate comments towards Carrie here. I am personally not a fan but please, be kind. No need to be so specifically mean if you don't personally like an actors performance.
We know that actors read this forum and you have no idea how much this trolling can do to someone's mental health.

I would like to see this show, but I’m really not a fan of CHF. I wonder if there’ll be an alternate who will perform at least one show per week? I’d rather catch her, to be honest.
Sadly, I’m not sure this will sell well. Is CHF that well-known?
I will see it nevertheless, despite the casting.

Running the gamut of emotions from A to B Is that music even from the show? Sounds more like the tune to a football chant…….. Sounds like they’ve ripped something off from one of those 1960’s Spaghetti Western movies with Clint Eastwood. What that’s go to do with Calamity Jane… who knows!

I think whoever is doing the marketing thinks it's actually a Western.

I'm not butch enough to be able to place the name of the football chant but if you sing 'you're **insert swear word** and you know you aaaaare' very slowly, it's the same tune as the start of this music, isn't it?

I know they're releasing info at carefully staged intervals and this won't be possible yet but what would really help promote it is to give snippets of any dance routines. This could be the fun selling aspect of Calamity. The energy around this should actually be awesome and so much fun.

Does this mean I have to hand in my Pink Card?

I don’t really understand why its ok to pile on to a performer who might read the board, than call out each other when we disagree? Is one thing better/worse than the other? Bit of a double standard really 🤔

Some of the comments on this thread are absolutely vile and I can imagine would never be said to the person in question if they were stood in front of them.

A shame as Doris Day's dancing in the film was exquisite and as you say, it's a fab selling point.

The 'be kind' mantra works both ways. Carrie has a problematic past when it comes to how she treats people, especially online. So many influencers and celebs hide behind 'be kind' to excuse their own poor behaviour.
People have every right to discuss people being cast, especially when they keep being cast in things are aren't up to the role. People here have paid and seen Carrie in various things over the years and all have common issues with the performance. People are frustrated.
It's the same as James Cordon in films. She is a bit of a James Cordon of musicals.
Also, producers and casting agents like to use social media to aid the casting process. So it's only fair people share their negative as well as positive views, and the reasons why. No one is being tagged into this and forced to read.
And the marketing so far is very off point. There's no getting away from it.
