When I saw the announcement I immediately thought, oh if Zendaya is Juliet then that would be just the most supreme thing ever. Zendaya is likely busy with Euphoria series 3 and also she'll be doing press for her new movie Challengers before that. I imagine it won't be anyone Tom Holland has worked with before. I was thinking Milly Alcock for Juliet but she might be busy with filming Superman Legacy.

Good for Tom. Excited for him, but I hope the stage door afterwards doesn't turn into a Cumberbatch at the Barbican situation 😅

I'm already envisaging the balcony scene out in the street somewhere .....

The rest of the cast might be relative unknowns, with Holland's name and Lloyd's recent hit with Sunset being enough to sell tickets.

Are there no other employable directors out there? This is a Jamie Lloyd Company production ? It’s open to all the other directors out there to set up their own production companies, recruit big name stars, and book West End theatres, and then direct the plays themselves. But hardly any of them can, they have to wait to be employed by other people who’ve done all those things.

After their mutual agent's recent confusion, perhaps Tom Hollander might also get some work in this to make up for his financial disappointment? Friar Lawrence would suit him well.

I'm sure it helped that, until a few days ago, Jamie Lloyd was employed by ATG, the multi-national theatre owner and producer.

All very well, but also announced today is that Les Dennis is doing Twelfth Night.

Doesn't Tom Holland have a reputation for plot spoilers with his films and gets told off for it. So I wonder if there will be an interview embargo so that he doesn't give away too much of the storyline?

All very well, but also announced today is that Les Dennis is doing Twelfth Night. Plus Les Dennis’ stage credits are far more extensive and impressive than Tom Holland’s. I didn’t think the RSC made best use of LD when he was there fairly recently.

Can’t wait to hear who Juliet will be! Scherzinger. Timothee Chalamet. He’s getting his coconuts ready as I type this.

Potentially a stupid question - do we think this will be Shakespearean language or a modern day text?

As long as there are no gas masks like Macbeth I’d like to see it.

Potentially a stupid question - do we think this will be Shakespearean language or a modern day text? That's not a stupid question! I mean, I expect it'll be the classic Shakespeare text, but I guess when Shakespeare is public domain and you can do anything with it... who knows?

The website says it’s “…Lloyd’s pulsating new vision of Shakespeare’s immortal tale…” So there’s a LOT of room for speculation based just on that.

I’ve kinda had my fill of Jamie Lloyd, but he does have an annoying habit of casting actors I’d really like to see.
But as ever, goes on sale when I’m in work, so will probably miss out.

The Whatsonstage article says: “The play features text editing by Nima Taleghani…” Recognised the name, but couldn’t place it. He was in Cyrano and is the moody teacher in Heartstopper.

Big concern, of course, is how to prevent Tom Holland from climbing up to the balcony ..

Barefoot. T-shirts. Lots of people lining up. No set. No thanks. Lloyd spends the budget of shoes on chairs. He's into being resourceful and saving the earth.
