I have just been reading some interesting facts on the Academy Awards and found some interest winning statistics regarding the smallest amount of screen time to be nominated/win:
- Shortest Performance to Win an Acting Oscar (Beatrice Straight in Network (1976) – 5 minutes and 2 seconds) - Shortest Performance to be Nominated for an Acting Oscar (Hermione Baddeley in Room at the Top (1959) – 2 minutes and 19 seconds)
- Shortest Performance to Win a Lead Acting Oscar (Patricia Neal in Hud (1963) – 21 minutes and 51 seconds) - Shortest Performance to be Nominated for a Lead Acting Oscar (Eleanor Parker in Detective Story (1951) – 20 minutes and 10 seconds)
So this lead me to think, what are some of the smallest amount of stage time performances that have been nominated or won Olivier's or Tony's, in both plays and musicals?

Andrea Martin for Pippin, she has a ten minutes scene and that's all (but she always brought down the house with her "Not Time At All"). Same for Polly Bergen and Jayne Houdyshell in the 2001 and 2011 productions of Follies; Houdyshell "only" had to sing Broadway Baby and had three or four other lines. Jonathan Groff didn't stay too long on stage for Hamilton and he got a nod as well.

First that pop into mind are Jonathan Groff in Hamilton and Christopher Fitzgerald in Waitress.

One that came to my mind, other than those mentioned above, is Marge MacDougall in Promises, Promises. It won both Marian Mercer and Katie Finneran the Tony Award in 1969 and 2010. So they will hopefully cast someone stellar in the upcoming London production!

Oh, Grizabella, Betty Buckley won the Tony for it. And, of course, Nicole Scherzinger was nominated for the same role!

I guess we could consider Tulsa in Gypsy; a role which got Dan Burton nominated for an Olivier this year? Sure he is on for a lot of Act I, but it is very much an ensemble role apart from his one number All I Need is The Girl, a song which was one of the highlights of the show for me! I found that nomination thoroughly deserved!

I recall Jonny Lee Miller's small part in 'Frankenstein' being nominated for an Olivier. Fnar fnar. Yeah, but it got even smaller when he had to share with Bendydick. And the award too.
