A new thread for announcements of, and comments on, upcoming amateur musical theatre productions. I will post details only of the less-chosen shows so no Olivers, Shreks or Addams Families from me, but anyone please feel free to post about any in your area, especially if you're appearing on stage !
I'll start off with three I've booked
Brigadoon at Olveston Parish Hall Tockington near Bristol from Wednesday 14 - Saturday 17 February.
Carousel at Exeter Northcott Theatre from Monday 8 - Saturday 13 April.
Beautiful - The Carole King Musical at Wyllyotts Theatre Potters Bar from Tuesday 7 - Saturday 11 May.

The £65 price at Birmingham is for the Gold Lounge package experience but the majority pricing between £30 and £40 is still high for an amateur sale. The first amateur Charlie I'm aware of is at Hampton Hill Theatre on Saturday 23 March. That's a Dramacube youth theatre production, booking not yet open. Also pre-Birmingham it's on at the Lincoln Theatre Royal 10 -18 May with a £24 to £26 price range. Plenty more later in the year.

Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is at the Boulevard Theatre, Milford Haven West Wales from Thursday 18 - Saturday 20 April. Cabaret style table seating.

Sadly, the costs of performing amateur productions in these large houses are getting just as astronomical as professional ones. Until these greedy venue owners (especially ATG) allow cheaper rates for these special one-week runs, AND provide justified marketing support, ticket prices are going to have to remain this high. There are numerous 'pro' houses around the UK who now take the hire fee and refuse point blank to provide ANY marketing support whatsoever. Thankfully, I'm aware of some good eggs in the ATG family who see the benefit of helping the companies to sell well and reap the rewards from the bar takings. Others - GREEDY, GREEDY, GREEDY.

Like you said the vast majority of the other tickets are either £35 or £40 which is wild for an amateur show. I’ve been to a number of BMOS shows in the past and they never seem to sell particularly well. A lot of empty seats around me. It must be hard for an amateur company to sell out such a large theatre. I’m surprised they haven’t looked at moving somewhere else as it can’t be much fun stepping out in front of so many empty seats.

Imperial College Musical Theatre Society is presenting Big Fish on 21 and 22 March. Tickets are very cheap (£8 for non-students). I’m putting this in Amateur as it’s not part of a College course. www.imperialcollegeunion.org/shop/student-groups/112I have no idea what the quality will be like, but a very cheap night out for South Kensington!
