A baffling and brilliant night of theatre news. I have so many questions. Did the OV and Sonia Friedman plan this? Is it sheer coincidence? How funny to have two starry productions of the same play announced within minutes of each other.
I feel as though Icke's will win in terms of overall production, but this is extremely exciting as well.

Is the correct term Oedipi or Oedipuses?

Wonder if both theatres are thinking 'Those Motherf*ckers!'

The Old Vic production should be called Oedipus Next.

Yeah, I love Lesley Manville, but this is the one I’d book if I get chance.

A complex situation indeed. There is no 'Oedipus' by Sophocles, there is Oedipus Rex and Oedipus at Colonus - perhaps these new adaptations will range across both in different proportions?

Take this with a grain of salt since I got it from Wikipedia, but apparently it was actually just called Oedipus originally and it is thought to have been renamed to Oedipus Rex (well in fact Oedipus Tyrannus in the original Greek) to distinguish it from Oedipus at Colonus once that was written.

Anybody buy today? Prices are reasonable, particularly for previews.

We have mentioned buses haven’t we? You wait etc and two Oedipuses come along at same time.

me, too - got exactly what I wanted.
Guess Rami Malek isn't that much of a draw, despite winning an Oscar. Nothing compared to the fuss around Tom Spider-Man Holland for sure!

I think it will get momentum closer to the time and tickets will be harder to come by. There was only a queue of about 1000 yesterday morning - I was in very quickly. I buy early with the OV as prices are usually very reasonable especially in preview. Can't rely on the great PwC deal for things I want to see. Of course the first five rows will probably be released nearer to the time too.

For our more mature members the 60+ discounts on mideweek matinees are very good - £77.50 stalls tickets for £33.

He isn't the draw for me. I've never seen the play before so there's that, but mostly it's Indira Varma. Been a fan of her on screen work for a while so seemed a great opportunity to see her on stage. The West End Oedipus cast doesn't appeal as much.
