I know theatre is subjective and everything, but calling this the worst thing you've ever seen when I know for a fact we've all seen worse shows is...wild to me 😂 Sorry, but it REALlY IS one of the most unsatisfactory shows I've ever seen.

This IS perhaps the worst thing I’ve ever seen. At least other terrible shows I’ve seen have had at least one redeeming feature. This has none, except the interval and the end.

This wasn't specifically aimed at you MrB you just happened to be the latest person to say it so apologies - badly worded.
I just think we are doomed to have to endure Heathers, Mean Girls and shows with no substance if this gets completed destroyed. It has issues, but I still think there's a lot to be applauded, and the West End is a better place for having this in it. But I see that's an outlier view here, so may e I should just let you all carry on tearing it to shreds 😂

I think most agree the cast do their best and it is not a performance issue.

I posted my thoughts when I saw the show a few pages back but in short'
I think the music is really intelligent, a lot of it quite stunning actually (the act 1 quartet particularly), I really like a lot of the directional choices (thought the camera stuff really works at showing how Sheridan's character loses grip on reality) and I thought the performances were informally strong, which is pretty much everything I look for in a good musical.

What is her character supposed to be? What is the point in all this? This captures exactly how I felt, I spent most of Act 2 pondering whether I was supposed to love or loathe Myrtle.

This is the most embarrassing thing I've seen on a West End stage. Every time a song ended I had already forgotten it. (I did like Nicola Hughes' big number at the end of Act 1 and one of Amy Lennox's songs during act 2).
I was worried this was going to be just a bit boring, then the hilarious ketchup car crash happens and I knew we were in for a fun ride.
Another one of my favourite moments was when during the interval the audience member beside me asked if we knew what was actually going on. We then spent the rest of the interval trying to explain.
The dubstep moment in act 2 was amateurish with mis-placed props, out of sync pre recorded video, actors doing different actions to what had been pre-recorded. After seeing the wonderful Dorian Gray the night before it was hard to watch.
The actress that plays Nancy shouldn't be cast in a musical again. Is she friends/family of Ivan or something? There's so many other talented actress' that could pull off that role. How was she cast!?

Shira Haas has starred in two Netflix shows in the last few years - Unorthodox and Bodies. Not sure if she has done any musicals before…

I thought she was well cast in this role, communicating a mischievous malevolence. At least she appeared to be acting convincingly which is more than can be said for most of the male cast, who often looked acutely embarrassed.

I actually disagree on Shira Haas. …thinking about it- perhaps she is the only redeeming feature of this (in my opinion).
She is a compelling presence on stage- even with zero to work with. She has a great voice and was fully committed to her role.
What I found almost most depressing is that Rebecca Thornhill is so absolutely wasted in this. And is in this. I don’t feel she’s ever been given the big break she deserves.
Did someone say she covers Sheridans part?
I trust they are all actively looking for the next job- they will know this is doomed.

...I just think we are doomed to have to endure Heathers, Mean Girls and shows with no substance if this gets completed destroyed... We? There are those that enjoy such shows and those that don't. Even a show with little substance can be enjoyable or relatable or satisfying in its own way. Opening Night seems to be working for remarkably few people commenting on this board (most of whom I assume are seasoned and open-minded theatre folk) against any of those criteria.

Mark Shenton says he's at a Press Performance tonight, with all reviews embargoed til official opening night on Tues. So whatever's been seen in recent days is 'it' - all improvements made for official opening.

Clive Davis from The Times was in last night. He'll probably hammer it.

I predict every critic will slate it tbh - but I hope there's one that can see what I saw in it but I won't hold my breath 😂

I predict every critic will slate it tbh - but I hope there's one that can see what I saw in it but I won't hold my breath 😂 I agree. It will probably fall into the neither-fish-nor-fowl bracket, whereby the critics who want a lowbrow thrill-ride will slam it because its "a pretentious piece where nothing happens" and critics who want highbrow thinkfest will slam it for "diluting Cassavetes' claustrophobic, difficult inexplicable psychological study into an easily digested, simplified West End musical." Tuesday is likely to be a bloodbath. Here's hoping that one idiosyncratic critic likes it lol.

The critics who normally hate all musicals will probably love it, as it's not a traditional musical, and that should be enough for some banner quotes. But it sounds like a vanity piece that has no future.

Sheridan Smith is being interviewed about the show on BBC breakfast this morning. It’s just been mentioned but no indication as to what time it will be.
