I remember the days when going to the box office was the way to book tickets (mind you I live in London) or you sent a stamped address envelope in with your cheque to pay for the tickets.

There is a lot more that box office staff do that isn't selling tickets to people face to face. Technology has been changing the ticketing landscape for a long while, then COVID accelerated those changes.

It’s interesting how different it is in NYC. The box offices there have a very strong Union, that’s part of the reason that TodayTix and other outlets don’t have direct access to the inventory for most houses. TodayTix actually send agents to go and buy from the box office in person with discount codes and then they send those tickets to the TTix customers (yeah, that actually happens!)

My local ATG theatres used to be open 10am-8pm 6 days a week (or approx. 6pm if no show on) but since September 2021 they've only been open from 6pm-8pm on days there are shows. They remain closed if the theatres are dark. I assume it's due to the increase in online sales since the pandemic but I don't know for sure.

I remember when I first arrived to the UK, I was looking for jobs and one of the ticket booth at Covent Garden was advertising for assistants. I applied, they did a "trial" with me; the job was to go to the theatre box office and purchase tickets. I failed miserably when the box office asked for my ID.... I felt so embarrassed...

When TodayTix first started on Broadway wasn’t it the case that after purchasing you had to meet a TodayTix agent at the front of the theatre to collect the physical tickets?

Now with the option for digitised tickets they are now emailed to you.
