Ooh will maybe try for tickets on the 40th anniversary night of Live Aid next summer. Unless that will be a big gala night. Will see when they go on sale Just looked at that and it’s a Sunday and doesn’t look like they are doing Sunday shows but I would be surprised if they don’t do something that night as a 1 off gala performance The What’s On Stage article this morning confirmed there will be a gala performance on 13th July… but nothing on sale at the mo. Presume it’ll be mostly invited guests and they might put a few upper circle seats on sale for us plebs! To accommodate this extra show, Monday 14th has no show, and neither do the previous couple of Mondays - either to allow for extra rehearsal time or compensate the cast with the time off in lieu owed from doing the extra performance w/c 7th July.

Can’t decide whether to read this as genuine or sarcastic (hard to gauge tone of voice online) but know you’re a fan of the show so hoping it’s true - would certainly be quite an event!

Only just noticed this getting the inevitable transfer.
Giving all my friends the heads up if they want to get very drunk and enjoy nostalgic karaoke punctuated by some of the worst storytelling I've ever witnessed. All in all, a hilarious night out.

Good to see people slating the show again before it's even opened... Unless they've changed everything about it from the OV run, it's still gonna be the same show with the same glaring problems. Hopefully it makes the Old Vic lots of money so they can focus on things of a higher quality for years to come... Quite. Unless I see those who loved it first time round holding their tongue until it re-opens, it hardly seems equitable we should be obliged to do so.

Geldof said it on the Virgin Radio podcast with Chris Evans - a gala performance on Sunday 13 July (presume celebs not plebs) but that screens will relay the performance outside on Shaftesbury Avenue. I never know with Bob whether he is being sarcastic or not as he is so droll and dry, but it all sounded genuine to me. What I love about this show is that it managed to find its audience in a busy west-end and that the producers are confident in taking the plunge in a bigger theatre. I think it will do brisk business, particularly given the location.

And what did your two friends say? Between your evangelical proselytising of the show, your inability to let a single derogatory comment go, and the ease with which you got nasty, I might start to believe you were Sir Bob himself if you weren't such a well-established member of the community. Anyway, my two friends have booked it and are looking forward to a night of judgemental revelry. They're just the contrary types to come back and have loved it, so let's cross our fingers that isn't the case. 🤞😉

Try saying "evangelical proselytising" with my accent.

Rumour has it that most of the cast are not returning. The run at Old Vic was quite enough for them.

Rumour has it that most of the cast are not returning. The run at Old Vic was quite enough for them. This is quite normal though - considering they'd have had to agree to 3 months in Canada in order to get the west end gig, some people just won't be up for that.

True, though given the youthful age of some of the cast who might have fewer ties, I imagine a year of guaranteed work would be very welcome.

What, "quite enough" of launching a new show in a reputable venue and having guaranteed income in a sold out show with nightly appreciative audiences in an industry with sky high unemployment? Hmmm, sounds awful! I think #rumour is the operative word! Unless something terrible happened behind the scenes I wouldn't know about?

Hard to believe a theatre that allows annual parachuting sprouts would get too wound up over a jukebox musical.

Let's put it this way the blatant lack of understanding of diversity and inclusion from the director was a key to the unrest in the building. That is all I am saying.

Not a fan of this show whatsoever (but I read threads of things I both like and dislike just to read other perspectives) and given that he directed the very watered down and 'safe' version of Starlight that is a tension free zone with no masculine bullies for Rusty to win against, (and a very gender neutral cast) he seems an odd target for that sort of accusation.

VERY odd target for that accusation.
So odd (and so vague) that it’s almost as if there is nothing to back it up….
