You do know that you are entitled to ask them to remove the service charge if you feel that strongly, right? I've done so before.

GOD If people are so tight they can't pay the service charge Eat at home Unbelievable And if you don't feel the charge is warranted You are eating at the wrong sort of places Trust me You are right I am too tight to pay a service charge, so that the proprietor can use that to pay his/her staff minimum wage and pocket the rest, I always ask for service charge to be struck off and then feel so insulted I will not even leave a discretionary tip. However when I get the bill for the food and it is up to me whether I want to leave a discretionary tip and the service has been good, I am more than happy to oblige and tip handsomely 20%.

No one likes the shadier tipping practices that go on in restaurants, but refusing to tip on principle is like shouting at the teenager on the supermarket check-out for the prices that head office set. If it matters that much, go to a restaurant that has good tipping practices, but don't eat in one of the shadier establishments then take it out on the hard-working wait-staff.

No good for a big group but Bibimbap round the corner from the prince Edward is cheap, quick and tasty.
