Oh I love this. If it just goes one notch better than the last tour I’ll be in heaven.

The greatest musical score ever IMO so I'll keep an eye out for when this comes around.

The Leicester Curve production in 2019 was terrific. I was sorry I missed the Ivo Van Hove revival in NYC - I'm not sure it was great but I was curious, had tix but Covid put paid to that. Interested to see what another production does to it now...

I´m guessing at the Coli (hopefully not!) or CFT. Curious as to how they´ll handle the casting, given the usual difficulties to cast this show authentically in the UK. But it´s such a stunning score I´m glad it may come back.

Just don't let Nikolai Foster anywhere near it after the phenomenally bland revival they did at Curve

If "traditional" casting is a caucasian non-Latin American cast playing the Sharks, then it obviously didn´t. But it was authentic casting, since all Sharks were latino. It is true some of them, including María, were Afro-Latinos.

I’ve heard whisperings of the NT. Could be wrong though.

very unlikely but i would love the chance to see the original choreography back on a stage. curve was my first time seeing this show and ofc it wasn’t but looking back on youtube, the og choreo is what makes this show special to me.

Is/was there only WSS and A Chorus Line that are choreographically ‘protected’? Do any other shows have any sort of covenant on performing the original choreo?

Robbins allowed the film some freedoom but if he wished to protect his vision then he was entitled to do so. With WSS why change perfection.

We spent all our time marvelling at the flying rig & glowing make up for Fruma Sarahs ghost.

One of the big problems with Curves productions of WSS and ACL was the incredibly sub-par choreography

I loved the Ivo van Hove production. It closed due to the pandemic and then didn't reopen partly due to the impending new film (which I also loved), as well as other problems.

TEN YEARS since I saw this at Sadler's Wells? 10? TEN?!
Surely some mistake.

Is it too much to ask that Rob Houchen will finally play Tony in full musical. Keeping everything crossed

Is it too much to ask that Rob Houchen will finally play Tony in full musical. Keeping everything crossed It isn’t often that someones voice brings me to ‘tears’, and not a discreet trickle but full on sobbing (swells of emotional music…yes…songs with emotional attachments…yes, but voices not so much) but Houchen singing ‘Maria’ was one of the most beautifully perfect things I have ever heard. To hear him sing Tony fully would be completing life.

I don't know because I thought the Curve production was coming back in some capacity. That's what I assumed recently from an interview with Nikolai Foster where he all but confirmed that, it seemed to me. I can't imagine there would be another revival and that one though, although there were two WSS's in that year that Curve and RX did it, so i guess it could.
I do hope one of their more acclaimed shows would get a further life, it's a bit disheartening to see Grease and Oz be the ones when they have much better more acclaimed work. I don't think I ever heard anyone ever wish for either of those shows to transfer particularity unlike the wish by many for WSS and BE, yet that's what happened. Interesting indeed.
