Well that was FUN,
What a life this woman has led! She came out tapdancing in a shimmering diver dress, with a glass of wine and took us though an extremely humorous journey of her life
Basically the show was in two halves- with old photographs via a PowerPoint presentation the first half covered her childhood, moving to London and how she got cast in the Rocky Horror Show and eventually the film.
The second half covered her nightclub called Nell’s.
Like me, she was born in Sydney.
Nell has, obviously, aged (haven’t we all) but she’s still got it! There’s a twinkle in her eye. She occasional fumbled and got things out of order and eventually, put on her glasses and read from her notes.
This was very engaging and funny- especially as a little girl she went the school dress up parade as an eyelash!
She told stories of how she was cast in the Rocky Horror Show and what it was like performing the show. She then went on to being cast in the film, and the filming process and the legacy that is The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
She also gave an explanation as to why here tits were always out.
She was the owner of an infamous club called Nell’s in New York which was opened from 10pm-4am, 7 days a week- she didn’t sleep properly for 4 years!
Nell discussed how the club came about its look and design, a chandelier that hung on an angle purchased from Philadelphia, the slowly dimmed lighting and of the many (many) celebrities that were there- Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, Prince, Jack Nicholson, Quincey Jones and Debbie Harry, to name a few.
There was the famous incident where Cher turned up and denied entry by the doorman.
At the age of 45 she conceived naturally and had a daughter- also with a bobbed haircut.
She is happily single but has many, many friends.
The creatures of the night were out last night, most of them, like myself, Rocky Horror fans. A lot were wearing some sort of Rocky paraphernalia. Some of the guys had on more make-up that the girls.
And what an audience- the fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, Tracey Ullman (I took a selfie), Patricia Quinn (Magenta). When I walked out of the front door of the theatre Sir Ian McKellan was there.
So, on a Tuesday night, on the existing set of The Jersey Boys, with a large throne, she ended the night with the Timewarp. In the downstairs foyer the were selling prints and t-shirts for £30, extra for a selfie.
12 hours later I'm still buzzing!
