Sorry in advance if this has already been answered but why are there no reviews out for this if it was press night last night?

Does anyone think the public areas of the theatre are a but like a rabbit Warren? I was sat in the dress circle and it's all narrow corridors and stairs and tiny little bar area. There was a delay opening the house for first preview and it got quite clostrophobic and very hot as more and more people kept arriving. I was starting to panic a bit. Same! Also really dislike it! So cramped and was similarly in the holding pen before first preview getting hot and stressed. And don't even get me started on the problems of two way traffic in those narrow little corridors that lead to the loo!

Finally seeing this tonight and beyond excited/nervous I for one will be fascinated to hear your opinion on it as I particularly appreciate your views on theatre. Hope you enjoy it!

Agree - this is the first time I have been to the Savoy Theatre and I think it is a pokey little place which feels very subterranean and claustrophobic. Plus the smell when you come out the main doors and walk back to the Strand - is it bins? Pee? Whatever it is, a bit of disinfectant would be nice.

But there's signs up saying no photos or filming. The usher's have signs at the front of the auditorium saying no photos or filming. Like, it LITERALLY couldn't be clearer so I think that's a load of baloney Oh well, I have missed these signs. Btw, no need to be so rude and patronising in your posts. I'm sure you wouldn't be like that in person.

It wasn't intended to be rude to you, more the people who seemingly can't follow the instructions that (as far as I'm concerned) are pretty clear - apologies if it comes across as patronising.

Apologies - i interpreted it as a dig at me for missing such signage. Which i missed probably because it is so dark in the theatre! No hard feelings.

All staircases and not much else - as Tom Francis will vouch!

I do think it's a good point about filming. And signs or not, not everyone will know that it really isn't acceptable. Based on life experience, TV, concerts etc etc and what life is like in the era of the smartphone.
There are lots of signs everywhere you go telling people not to do things - but disobeying is common and in some cases totally socially acceptable.
It's a good point about the whole "bad behaviour" discussion generally. Being fuming and outraged (and I am very often guilty) will do nothing to ever change it. Nor will confrontation. Heaven knows enough of us on here have witnessed that! The only chance meaningful change ever comes about is if we try and understand the motivations of the people doing it.
I rather suspect that most bad behaviours aren't terrible people (some are, most aren't) - rather people with different social norms or with no idea how irritating their behaviour is to others.
(Trying to be in understanding mode lol - no doubt next time I sit next to it I'll be livid again. But I do wanna try and think in ways that would actually make it better).

On the subject of photos/filming, IIRC from last week there was a tannoy announcement ahead of the show start (in the FOH areas). Although as we all know, the people who need to hear this are usually the last ones bothering to listen to requests not to film, to take their seats as it's about to start etc etc...

Haha - Tom's incredible staircase descent is the only thing that makes me think positively about the descent of hell (might have been a good underground theatre for Hadestown!)

Exactly - it falls on deaf ears! I've noticed no difference in behaviour in shows that have announcements vs those that don't!

Oh it is the second worst designed theatre in London - everything is 5000 miles away from everything else, the corridors aren't wide enough to fit two people along, and it generally puts me in a bad mood everytime I'm there... Trumped only by Soho Place, which is LITERALLY the worst designed building I've ever set foot in

The Savoy I don't think can be realistically be altered given it's listed status.

I'm know I'm going off subject now but The Prince of Wales theatre is also a bit of an oddity. You seem to to up and down and allover the place. It's a bit like a maze. I always have to get a FOH person to take me to the disabled toilet as I can never find it on my own.

Yes it's odd because the back of the auditorium rears right up to the edge of the street so there's no room for a 'crossover' around the back of the stalls, thus you have to go underneath it through the bar to get to the right hand side of the auditorium. And likewise, the super-steep Dress Circle requires you to enter at the very top of the theatre and walk down those horrific stairs if you're in the middle. Still, it's one of the most beautifully-renovated, art deco theatres thanks to Delfont Mackintosh.

I have a question, as this show was totally new to me I don’t know the answer, why were the studio interested in her car?

I have a question, as this show was totally new to me I don’t know the answer, why were the studio interested in her car? I think it was just that she had a nice vintage car, and a particular studio exec took a shine to it and wanted to buy it from her, that’s all
