Rachel Tucker has just been announced as alternate Norma! Monday evenings and other select performances TBC. The tweet says ‘head to the website’ for her performance schedule but I can’t see it on there just yet. Definitely Mondays though… Maybe this is becoming trend. Michael Ball has just done the same thing with Aspects of Love. Like Bob Geldof, perhaps the stars "don't like Mondays". Can't blame them.

Should have waited before booking. Think I'd rather see Rachel than Nicole. Never mind as I can always go again.

Given how much I adored Rachel in Come From Away I suspect I may well need to book to see her too!
Good availability and seemingly lower prices for her first show on 12th Oct (Thurs matinee) than at other performances, so for those not keen on Nicole, go book.

What great news about Queen Tucker. Another icon! Am convinced this is gonna be amazing.
Now, can they please hurry up and announce Joe!
(Though I am sorry it wasn't Victoria Hamilton Barritt who literally exudes Norma Desmond energy. Next time.....)

I expect Tucker to be on a lot. Scherzy hasn’t ever gone 2 weeks without having a holiday

WTF? Another way-too-young casting choice. This is wild y’all. Did they declare when bookings opened that NS wouldn’t do Mondays? Really bad if they didn’t. I do love your relentless positivity about current/recent ALW musicals. Yes they did - literally couldn't be clearer on the ATG site - it's on the (very short) list of things that ATG have done well. Anyway, louder for those at the back: Norma-Desmond-Is-Not-Meant-To-Be-Old!

I expect Tucker to be on a lot. Scherzy hasn’t ever gone 2 weeks without having a holiday Her attendance in Cats was exemplary.

Now, if this has a large orchestra it´ll be perfect.

Isn’t Adam Pearce contactually obliged to play Max for the rest of time? I do hope so.

“And other selected dates” Yes - from what I’d heard she’s only doing what she’s pre-scheduled to do

Booking page notes:
Monday 9 Oct- Nicole Scherzinger is not scheduled to appear at this performance. An alternate cast member will play the role of Norma Desmond. Their name will be confirmed at a later point.
Thursday 12 Oct- Nicole Scherzinger is not scheduled to appear at this performance. Rachel Tucker will be guest starring in the role of Norma Desmond.
Surely they won't debut the understudy before Rachel?

Hence my asking if they’d really debut the understudy before Rachel. Would be curious timing if they did Nothing against understudies, of course, usually more exciting than principals too- I’d be interested in seeing them whoever they are

“And other selected dates” Yes - from what I’d heard she’s only doing what she’s pre-scheduled to do Its almost as breezy as ‘when she fancies’ isn’t it? ‘If she has the time’. ‘If she isn’t too busy’. I await the stage door announcement with some trepidation. (I can hear some lackey pre-scribbling those postcards).

Rachel is an excellent performer but at only 42 is surely far too young for the role. Seeing Nicole in her latest beach bikini selfie also doesn't make me think of a faded ageing star

I find the score to to be rather good but its very disjointed with no real throughline of composition unlike Aspects or JCS. Although this has not hindered Carmen or Follies success ...

I find the score to to be rather good but its very disjointed with no real throughline of composition unlike Aspects or JCS. Although this has not hindered Carmen or Follies success ... I think its his last ‘formulaic’ show; the motif introduced in so many different guises, the comedy song, putting all the length in the first act, a couple of big hitters at the top of act 2, you somehow look up and realise you’re right near the end etc. I think it has the finest finale of all of his shows (except perhaps John 19:41). Everything since has had some of that, but not all.
