I'm not usually a fan of live recordings of shows - but as a 'souvenir' item, this recording really does take me back to being in that place and time and experiencing it. Wonderful. Can't wait for the rest of the soundtrack to drop. And it doesn't sounds as "live" as it could have - they have edited some of the audience reactions throughout the song and just kept in the end applause. I thought this too, I remember most nights that the audience would applaud when Tom Francis finally enters the auditorium in the final chorus.

Can I just give a big doff of my cap to the sound engineers in the theatre and to whoever mixed the track released today? It's no mean feat - there was a lot of engineering in the theatre to create that pure cinematic swell, and the risk of replicating this for the recording could have resulted in some murky stodgy effects particularly when further surround or Atmos effects are applied by whatever equipment you use to play your music. I've played this on my phone, a high-end Yamaha soundbar/sub, a Technics wireless speaker and my in-car system - it sounds fantastic on all of them, and even playing with the various preset options the track retains a pure and clean quality. The love, attention to detail, and outright perfectionism devoted to this production and recording is something to be admired. They have set a new bar for quality on several fronts and should be very proud.

The mix and master is utterly perfect, utterly magical. I think there must be genuine blood sacrifice going on to get something recorded live this clean.

This really is a show that keeps on giving, isn't it after the track drop and now the video? Let's get in back now!

What a crazy video. Honestly so good to see everyone so happy and smiling and enjoying working on it cut with the actual walking trick.
Honestly that last shot is so fantasic that it makes me wish for a proshot. And I also love Tom and Jamie watching the football haha

Some of the footage is so specific to certain points in the show and there's definitely a multi-camera set up going on in the theatre but were there any filming notices about?
Also rights would suck lol

Good vid but I’d liked to have just seen the entire sequence as we saw it at the theatre. There were some laugh out loud moments as he made his way past the dressing rooms with Nicole in the turban, the monkey, the ALW cut out, Max’s Pussycat dolls pic… I loved it.

Yes, though I wonder if they'll include the laughing in the Entr'acte even though we can't see it.

Also rights would suck lol They had permanent crew throughout the run. So many opportunities to film the more complex sections and then edit in with house cameras. They have so much B-roll and behind the scenes footage I find it hard to believe they've not captured the whole thing for a later release. If they haven't filmed it already then I think they will.

Can imagine it would be good for Scherzy's press to have that out there eventually, even if it's after the conclusion of the run. Would be a perpetual income stream for her and everyone else.

No offence to Broadway but if there is a proshot then I really hope its already been filmed at the Savoy and not filmed in NY. Afterall it's our show and we are just lending it to Broadway 😀

Wow, just had a listen on Spotify and it sounds soooo good! Gave me goosebumps and took me straight back to the Savoy. The orchestrations are beautiful and Tom’s voice sounds just as powerful as I remember. Even more excited to hear the full recording now. Yet again, hearing this just makes me feel so lucky to have been there for both an early preview and again on closing night back in January, a truly iconic theatre performance I’ll never forget seeing. And is it embarrassing to admit that I was today years old when I realised that the ‘Sunset’ of the title isn’t just the location of Norma’s house but a reference to her being in her ‘sunset’ years? I’m guessing yes so I’ll get my coat! 🤦🏼♂️ Ummmm…. Add me to that list - you just educated me 🙃🙃🙃🙃

I can't find the tech/rehearsal of Broadway (of the opening number) that I saw last night. It was shared from TikTok to an Instagram story of a friend but I can't remember whose.
Anybody got a link?

Well as someone who was wildly jealous reading these pages a year ago, (and was wildly trying to plan a 2 day trip to UK and back just to see this) I'm so super stoked today. Listened to the track at least 5 times (and watched the video 3 times) - and ceebee you're so spot on. I'm amazed at the quality of this "live recording" - it sounds so perfect - and between the orchestrations, the delivery it sounds so crisp and fresh. Hard to believe I've been listening to this score for over 30 years now and have never tired of it - but now for it to sound like something brand new. October 12th can't come soon enough to see this (for the first time)

It's just come up on my Facebook page that a year ago today I went to see Sunset Boulevard which would have been the first preview.

Wonder if we'll get another single for one of Scherzy's songs. Seems like a miss for her to not have a song out.

Just realised that October 25th will actually be the anniversary of when I saw it for the first time. That's an absolutely incredible coincidence.
